Camp Tawonga is a co-ed residential children’s summer camp located outside Yosemite National Park. The campers range in age from 7-17 and participate in 1-week, 2-week, or 3-week programs throughout the summer. The Camp Tawonga Staff is a family of 160 dedicated individuals, working together to create a vital Jewish community where children thrive. This outstanding team includes people with both Jewish and non-Jewish backgrounds.

Camp Tawonga’s mission is to foster positive self-image for campers, create a cooperative community, teach children to live in partnership with nature, and offer children a positive experience of spirituality. The work at Camp is demanding, with long hours, high intensity, and little privacy. The rewards are great: the joy of helping children grow, the beauty of the mountains and river, and the camaraderie of working with other enthusiastic and caring staff.

As a driver, you would transport passengers and equipment daily on winding mountain roads in eight-passenger SUVs, often with a trailer. You would be expected to maintain safety as your highest priority. Drivers must arrive on-time for all departures and pick-ups, complete pre-trip inspections thoroughly, remain alert and focused while driving and behave kindly and professionally to the children and staff with whom you work.

You would gas the vehicles and provide light maintenance, such as cleaning the vehicles, restocking supplies, and occasionally changing a tire. Many of our drives are in and out of beautiful Yosemite National Park. You would be expected to complete errands for camp such as shopping, picking up prescriptions, and dropping off recycling. While not on drives, you may provide assistance in the camp office or other departments in camp as needed.

Many departures are early in the morning (e.g. 6 am) and you are expected to get adequate sleep the night before and refrain from any intoxication 8 hours before coming on duty.

Drives also transport staff, campers, and/or luggage, to and from the Bay Area, at the start and end of each camp session (5 times per summer).

Must be 21 years old, have an excellent driving record, be able to lift heavy objects (ie. trailer, boxes, luggage, etc.), and be able to remain alert for long stretches of driving.

Food and lodging are provided. All positions are for the full 10 weeks, from Thursday, June 3rd, 2021 to Friday, August 6, 2021.
