Mountain Meadow Ranch is a co-ed, sleep away summer camp for kids ages 7 to 16. We have enjoyed 61 summers of family owned and operated summer camp life, our current directors are our third generation! Uniquely located on a spacious 900-acre ranch north of Lake Tahoe, in the northeastern slopes of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. We are nestled between the preserved natural beauty of the Lassen and Plumas National Forests, and the wild desert of the Great Basin. We offer a traditional camp program during the best weeks of summer. Our unique summer camp philosophy allows campers to bond and become like family through the many activities we provide.

HERE AT MMR WE STRIVE TO CREATE A VERY UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT. AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS CONTRARY TO CONTEMPORARY CULTURE. WHERE TECHNOLOGY IS TRADED FOR ALL-PRESENT CONVERSATIONS AND AUTHENTIC FRIENDSHIPS. WHERE TRUE FUN IS HAD WITHOUT THE AID OF SUBSTANCES. WHERE THERE IS NO PRESSURE OR EXPECTANCY FOR ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS AND EVERYONE IS VIEWED AS FAMILY. OUR MISSION AND OUR COMMITMENT ARE AT THE HEART OF WHAT WE DO AT MOUNTAIN MEADOW AND SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO SPECIAL CONSIDERATION WHEN SEEKING EMPLOYMENT WITH OUR FAMILY.

WE WANT TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE NORM AND WELCOME THE BENEFITS OF CHALLENGING OURSELVES TO GROW TO BECOME BETTER HUMANS.

WITH FULL HEARTS, WE ENDEAVOR TO BE PEOPLE THAT SEEK TO EXPERIENCE ALL THE FULFILLMENT AND PEACE MINDFUL LIVING CAN OFFER. THERE IS SO MUCH JOY IN DANCING OUTSIDE COMFORT-ZONES! CAMP IS AN INTENSIVE SHORT-LIVED TIME, FILLED WITH KIDS THAT NEED US TO BE PRESENT IN EVERY MOMENT. WE WANT STAFF THAT IS WILLING TO GIVE UP THEMSELVES FOR THE KIDS AND COMMIT TO A UNIQUE LIFESTYLE....IF YOU SEEK A SUMMER OF FUN ALONE, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO LOOK ELSEWHERE. TO SAY CAMP IS FUN IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT, FUN IS A GIVEN.

...BUT MMR ISN'T JUST A SUMMER CAMP. IT’S A PLACE WHERE FEARS ARE CONQUERED AND IDENTITIES ARE FOUND. IT’S A PLACE WHERE GENUINE RELATIONSHIPS ARE BORN AND FLOURISH. WE ARE GROWTH, UNPLUGGED, WHOLESOME ADVENTURE. WE PRACTICE STEWARDSHIP, INCLUSIVENESS, EMPATHY, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND INTEGRITY. AS WE CELEBRATE AUTHENTICITY, WE HELP EACH OTHER AS A FAMILY, FIND JOY IN OUR UNIQUENESS AND ENCOURAGE ALL TO DANCE OUTSIDE THEIR COMFORT ZONES. WE BELIEVE ALL THIS STARTS WITH OUR COUNSELORS.

Lake Staff General Job Description

At MMR, all activities related to the lake take place at Lake Almanor, which is a vast surface area lake spanning almost 13,000 acres and is located approximately 42 miles from camp. Every day, after breakfast, the lake crew takes a van full of eight campers, who were picked the night before, to the lake where they spend the day skiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, tubing, and other water activities. The boat is kept in slips in the water at the Knotty Pine Resort marina, where we start and finish each day. On the way to the lake, the campers are provided with a brief introduction to how things work at the lake, including everything they need to know about sunblock, life jackets, standing up, sitting down in the boats, and other essential safety measures.

Summer Goals:
The water ski program aims to provide the opportunity for as many campers as possible to get to the lake. Some campers have skied or wakeboarded before, while others have not. Some are eager to try, and others are terrified at the thought of it. Everyone should be given the opportunity to try something new, but should also be shown a good time within their comfort zone (whether that’s just being on a tube or attempting a new trick on a wakeboard). Campers should come home from the lake happy, maybe exhausted, still hydrated, and without a sunburn.

Physical Ability Requirements:

  • CPR/FIRST AID/AED Certified
  • Willing to be LIFEGUARD certified before arrival to camp
  • California Boaters License (easy online certification course!)
  • Walk to and from aquatic areas on uneven ground.
  • Physically able to get on and off the boat, help launch the boat from the dock, balance skills moving around the boat, etc.
  • Lift ski equipment to and from the water and back onto the boat equipment rack.
  • Carry full ice chest and water coolers

*Please keep in mind, Mountain Meadow Ranch counselors act as both cabin counselors and activity instructors.
