The Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center employs a small staff composed of instructors, interns, a maintenance coordinator, and a chef. We do not employ receptionists,
waitpersons, etc. We do not hire staff solely for the summer season, although some full-time instructors may work through the summer.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and able to work legally in the United States. Candidates must be personable, energetic, be able to have fun while they work, be team players, hard workers, and have a strong desire to share their love of the outdoors. Experience teaching young people is a must for all but internship applicants.
We have a network of cross-country ski trails and a mountain bike park. The Adirondack High Peaks are a short drive away.
Staff is expected to eat meals with students when groups are at the Center. The kitchen is always open to staff. There are 2 staff houses with 3-4 bedrooms in each. Both staff houses have a full kitchen, bathroom, and lounge area.
All of our jobs include room and board, laundry facilities and internet access. Pok-O-MacCready provides a fun environment in which to work, play, and socialize. Two weeks paid training. All staff members participate in staff enrichment days. Staff members may use equipment (e.g. rock climbing equipment, canoes, mountain bikes, etc.) and facilities during their days off.
Full-time instructors are eligibile for professional purchase programs through Liberty Mountain Sports, Black Diamond, The North Face, and with other leading outdoor equipment companies. Five days paid vacation. A total of five weeks paid training. Pok-O-MacCready can pay for one third of Full-time instructors’ health care coverage on our corporate plan.
Staff members are encouraged to have their own car, but rides to town and to the mountains can be usually be arranged with other staff members heading that way.
