Amargosa Opera House, Inc. operates the Amargosa Hotel year-round and is currently hiring for positions (some with an immediate start).

The Amargosa Café is hiring for next season, which starts late September through Memorial Day.

All new hires are required to attend training sessions.

  • Front Desk Clerk and Tour Guide

    Customer Service

    $11.00 / hour + tips

    As the Front Desk Clerk, you will make the first impression, so a friendly, welcoming and positive personality is a must.

    25 - 36 hours on a set schedule per week. 

    Main Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Provide excellent guest service at all times
    • Greet visitors and guests
    • Give scheduled tours of the Amargosa Opera House
    • Sell merchandise from the Gift Shop
    • Check-in hotel guests
    • Answer the phone and take phone reservations
    • Manage online reservations
    • Work with Square point-of-sale system
    • Provide local area information to our in-house guests and the general public   
    • Keep the work environment clean and tidy
    • Be willing and prepared to help out occasionally with housekeeping duties
    • Adhere to the AOH, Inc. Employee Handbook, policies & procedures

  • Cook/Line Cook

    Food and Beverage
    Death Valley, California
    $11.00 / hour + tips

    Amargosa Café is a small establishment that serves fresh farm-to-table, local and organic food. All baked goods are made in-house and we proudly serve Genovese espresso coffee. 

    As a Cook/Line Cook, you will be part of a very small team at the Amargosa Café and required to work closely with Front of House and Cook.  Experience as a cook or assistant cook in a professional setting is preferred. An interest and sensibility for fresh, made-from-scratch food is essential. Baking skills are a bonus!

    30 - 40 hours per week. This position starts at the end of September and goes through to the end of May. We close June through the end of September. If we are a good fit for each other you will be employed for the next season/s.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Prepare components of each dish on the menu
    • Prepare all the food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
    • Follow recipes, control portions, and presentation specifications as set by the Cafe.
    • Ensure that the kitchen, food prep and food storage areas meet California Food Safe standards
    • Monitor product freshness and rotate out old product 
    • Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, slicing meat, or preparing sauces)
    • Cook menu items in cooperation with kitchen staff
    • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
    • Perform shift preparation, nightly shutdowns, and cleaning duties
    • Clean, maintain and organize kitchen, cooking line, and work station
    • May be required to assist with food running, bussing, dishwashing, and other related tasks
    • Comply with nutrition, sanitation regulations and safety standards
    • Adhere to the AOH, Inc. Employee Handbook, policies & procedures

    Skills and Job Qualifications

    • Ability to work on your feet for eight hours or more a day
    • High level of professionalism
    • Attention to detail
    • Comfortable working with a team in a kitchen environment
    • Excellent communication and organization skills
    • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds at a time on an occasional basis
    • Proven cooking experience, including experience as a line cook, restaurant cook or prep cook
    • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
    • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
    • California Food Handler Card required
    • Must be available weekends and holidays
    • Must have reliable transportation
