Job Summary: Supervises and directs activities of the Terrain Park department.  Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of Terrain Park department.

Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks include the following; other duties may be assigned:

  • Conduct daily opening and closing procedures of terrain parks.
  • Assist in the creation, construction, and maintenance of the terrain park features, including raking, shoveling, etc.
  • Organize events in the terrain park; seek sponsorship, coordinate food, sign-up, and staffing.
  • Actively work with patrol, snowmaking, and grooming to maintain parks.
  • Follow industry standards for terrain park.
  • Be familiar with accident investigation procedures when necessary.
  • Install and maintain terrain park signage, closures, trail markings, fencing and banner tape.
  • Monitor terrain park features by vision inspection and testing procedures.
  • Provide friendly guest service and educate customers on park safety and etiquette.
  • Work with Human Resources to interview, hire, train, and appraise performance of employees.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to employees in accordance with RLM policies and State/Federal employment laws.
  • Maintain employee work schedules including assignments, job rotation, training, vacations and paid time off, cover for absenteeism, and overtime scheduling.
  • Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, rewards, reviews, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources when necessary.
  • Accomplish financial objectives by adhering to a departmental budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; and initiating corrective actions.
  • Plan, evaluate, and improve the efficiency of department processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output.
  • Manage the preparation and maintenance of reports necessary to carry out the functions of the department. Prepare periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested, to track strategic goal accomplishment.
  • Delegate department representation at committees such as sustainability, safety, and customer service.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with other managers, directors, general manager, and other designated contacts within the organization.
  • Maintain and enhance a team-oriented culture with all departments and demonstrates a collaborative attitude.
  • Assist subordinates and other departments in performing duties whenever necessary.

Required:

  • Passion for snow sports and freestyle terrain skiing/riding.
  • Advanced skier/snowboarder ability level.
  • Ability to drive a snowmobile in adverse conditions.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform manual labor.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and direct employees, serve customers, and maintain excellent customer service during high stress situations.
  • Highly organized and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic economic, budgeting, and accounting principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to the organization's management team.
  • Safety orientated and able to train employees on safety procedures of equipment used.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • General knowledge of various employment laws and practices and employee relations.
  • Evidence of the ability to practice a high level of confidentiality.
  • Available to work holidays and/or weekends.
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Preferred:

  • Previous terrain park construction/snowscaping experience.

Experience/Education

Required:

  • At least three years terrain park experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the ski industry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk see, hear and smell.  The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects tools or controls.  Must be capable of walking or standing 70% or more of a normal 8 hour work shift.  Must be capable of occasionally lifting and pushing or pulling 100 lbs or more, and frequently lifting, pushing or pulling, and carrying up to 20 lbs.  Must be capable of frequent climbing movements, walking on uneven terrain, walking on snow and ice, and snowboarding/skiing.  Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places.  They will be occasionally exposed to extreme cold, and wet conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electric shock.
