    Cast Member / Tour Guide

    $17.00 / hour + tips

    ***$16/hr regular wage, $1/regular wage hour worked end-of-season bonus when contract completed.  Cast Member / Tour Guides are eligible for tips.  Guides MUST be able to arrive in Skagway by April 23rd - Training begins April 24th, 2025; Contract End Date is Sept 30th, 2025. Subsidized housing is $300/month, double occupancy, deducted from the paycheck. Pets are not allowed in company housing.***

    Position Brief

    Alaska 360 is looking for engaging storytellers to guide tours and share with our esteemed guests the outrageous true stories and some tall tales of the famous 1898 Gold Rush and the world of Skagway and Greater Alaska that it created. Alaska 360’s tour guides dress in period costume and take on the personas of prospectors and other members of the 1898 Gold Rush community. Our Tour Guides also assist with the upkeep and operations of Alaska 360’s retail center shop and restaurant areas and with maintaining of the tour grounds.

    General Responsibilities

    The Cast Member / Tour Guide is the backbone of this company’s operation. Alaska 360 takes great care to train and maintain a professional and knowledgeable cast of characters to perform daily tasks and execute the company’s tour offerings for all guests who visit Alaska 360’s Dredge Town. This position reports to multiple supervisors and managers throughout the day and is expected to carry out the company’s mission and represent the values of the company to the guests and to his/her colleagues. Cast Members assume a persona from the Klondike Gold Rush era and work in period costumes.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    • Responsible for the most important part of Alaska 360’s tours: the guest's personal experience of Dredge Town, our town site.
    • Interacts with all guests in an open and entertaining manner, keeping in character as someone from the Klondike Gold Rush throughout the workday.
    • Works as a Dock Representative for their assigned tour under supervision of Alaska 360's Operations Team with duties including interaction with guests, transportation companies and cruise ship employees.
    • Acts as a Tour Guide for their assigned tour which may include components such as the White Pass train, the Gold Rush Training Camp, the Sixty Mile Dredge, the Campfire and Gold Panning.
    • Takes responsibility for a particular group of guests either as a Guide or as a Townsperson (support person on site) in providing entertainment throughout the course of the day.
    • Assists guests in gold panning and assaying of their gold.
    • Works in the retail area (mainly assaying of gold) as an essential component of the tours.
    • Helps with maintenance and cleaning tasks throughout the day.
    • Assists in opening and closing tasks in the Retail Center, Restaurant and Operations on a rotating basis. Tasks may include but are not limited to the maintenance of restrooms and general areas, inventory support, assembly of snack bags, etc.).
    • Works daily with multiple supervisors, managers, and partners with other cast members.
    • Ensures a clean clutter free work environment.

    Educational Background

    • High School Diploma or education equivalent (GED)
    • Degree or training in drama, theatre and/or education helpful
    • Experience in sales or retail
    • High degree of knowledge about gold and Alaska through coursework and study is also advantageous.

    Professional Experience

    • Experience in hospitality, education, theme parks or tourism helpful
    • Experience in sales or retail a plus
    • Experience in theatre, education, musical talent, juggling, storytelling, comedy, or other performing or public speaking desired
    • Love of history and a desire to inspire others to appreciate it is a necessity

    • Good interpersonal skills for daily interactions with individual guests and groups
    • Strong presentation/acting skills
    • Versatility - fulfill multiple rotating positions and transition quickly between the site segments
    • Flexibility - work in an ever-changing environment that is prone to change throughout the workday
    • Commitment to making the guests’ experience a top priority
    • Continued participation and interest in educational material relevant to Alaska, The Klondike Gold Rush, gold, and Skagway
    • Ability to work as part of a team including up to 40 daily employees
    • Ability to lift 30lbs throughout the workday
    • Ability to stand and walk for an 8-hour workday
