    Seasonal Operations Manager

    Position Overview

    A dynamic leadership role overseeing daily transportation operations, fleet management, and team development for our seasonal tourism business from March through October.

     

    Schedule

    Season Duration: March through October

    Working Days: 5-day workweek with alternating Monday-Tuesday or Tuesday-Wednesday off

    Additional Hours:  Flexibility required to work during scheduled days off when business needs arise

    Daily Start Time: 30 minutes before first passenger pickup or 9:00 AM, whichever is earlier

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Team Leadership & Development

    • Provide direct supervision and support to driving team members
    • Serve as primary point of contact for driver questions, concerns, and operational issues
    • Design and implement team building activities and recognition programs
    • Manage performance improvement processes and corrective actions
    • Foster a positive work environment that promotes safety, service excellence, and team collaboration

    Scheduling & Operations Management

    • Develop and maintain efficient driver schedules to meet all tour and transfer requirements
    • Ensure equitable distribution of assignments among driving team
    • Conduct proactive schedule analysis to identify and address potential coverage challenges
    • Implement solutions for last-minute schedule changes or operational demands
    • Monitor and adjust staffing levels based on business forecasts

    Fleet Management

    • Oversee comprehensive vehicle maintenance program
    • Conduct regular vehicle inspections to identify mechanical issues and cosmetic concerns
    • Coordinate with maintenance providers for preventive service and annual inspections
    • Establish and maintain vehicle cleanliness standards
    • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
    • Ensure all vehicles meet safety regulations and company presentation standards
    • Track and document vehicle maintenance history and expenses

     

    Additional Duties

    • Serve as Manager on Duty during assigned shifts
    • Participate in management team meetings and strategic planning sessions
    • Support other departments during peak periods
    • Assist with special projects as assigned

     

    Qualifications

    • Previous experience in transportation operations management preferred
    • Strong leadership and team-building abilities
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
    • Proficiency in scheduling software and basic computer applications

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to work extended hours in various weather conditions
    • Capable of inspecting vehicles, which may require bending, stretching, and light lifting
    • Must be able to assist with luggage handling when necessary
    • Must be able to lift/move luggage/material weighing 50+ pounds

    JOB SUMMARY:

    This position will be one of the lead trainers at one of our training programs in the lower 48 or Alaska. During the months of January-March position will be located at one of our driver training centers. During the months of April-October position will be in Alaska. This position will report to the Regional Manager of Safety and Training to ensure a successful training program.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Instruct student drivers to obtain CDL.
    • Coordinate with Regional Manager Safety and Training to ensure overall company compliance.
    • Coordinate with Regional Manager Safety and Training to ensure efficient qualification for trainees.
    • Recruit and hire seasonal driver trainers.
    • Coordinate with leadership team on driver recruitment.
    • Minimum 24 months commercial driving experience.

    General Function:  Perform scheduled services and repairs to equipment including; motor coaches, vans, service trucks, and shop tools and equipment during the operating season.  Perform major repairs to above equipment during off season.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Prior experience or formal education/training in maintaining and repairing diesel engines, air brakes, chassis, and electrical on heavy equipment and (preferably) motor coaches. Applicants must provide and use their own basic hand tools. 
    • Certified as physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle according to a U.S. Dept. of Transportation physical and NIDA urinalysis drug screen. Candidates must be willing to submit to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and just cause drug & alcohol testing.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and a good, safe driving record (no more than one moving violation or “at fault” accident in the last three years). DUI, DWI, negligent or reckless driving convictions automatically disqualify the applicant. Successful applicants will be asked to provide a current (no older than 30 days) copy of his/her Motor Vehicle Record.
    • Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 50 lbs. Employees must be able to sit, stand, walk, balance, kneel, crawl, see, talk, and hear.   
    • Employees must be able to work in harsh weather conditions for long hours on a variable schedule.

    • Through training and leadership, gain understanding of systems and maintenance needs for all vehicles in fleet, in order to facilitate safety of passengers, and high levels of operation for the equipment. 

     

    • Routine duties will include, but are not limited to changing oils, fluids and filters, conducting lube jobs and minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tires, repairing leaks, etc.

     

    • Work with shop foreman to establish a routine system to identify mechanical defects in equipment and implement repairs as needed.  Prioritize and perform year-round maintenance and repairs to include diesel engine repair, air brakes, air suspension, chassis, electrical systems, transmissions, air conditioning systems, body repairs, etc.

     

    • Review the daily vehicle reports submitted by drivers; troubleshoot and repair any issues that arise in day to day operation.  Work with drivers in gaining understanding of general systems of all equipment, so that they may facilitate safety and achieve high levels of operation for the equipment that they operate.

     

    • Gain understanding of Federal and State DOT regulations and integrate routine compliance into all aspects of work. Complete all related paperwork in a professional, accurate, consistent and timely manner.

     

    • Maintain open, clear, and positive communication regarding all aspects of vehicle maintenance and safety with Shop Foreman, Operations team, and drivers.

     

    • Work with management to quickly assess situations and work with operations team to relay information via proper channels in the event of circumstances out of the normal schedule (vehicle breakdowns, assisting operations, etc.).
