EMPLOYMENT DATES A full summer season is from June 9, 2025 through August 11, 2025 (this includes a 9-day staff training in Montana). Strong preference will be given to guides able to commit to the full summer season, though limited considerations may be made for partial summer commitments.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION There’s more to adventure camp leadership than hiking and playing games. The job of an Alpenguide is all-encompassing and integral to the Alpengirl experience. The person that excels at this job has a balanced combination of hard and soft skills, and employs both appropriately to benefit the campers in their care. Alpenguides are responsible, trustworthy, positive role models that are committed to FUN! An Alpenguide team consists of 2-3 Alpenguides who lead groups of 10-12 campers for 8-14 days, with support from Camp Directors and regional support staff. Alpenguides will…

  • Supervise girls ages 11-17, who may be new to adventure camps/wilderness environments

  • Lead multi-day backpacking or horse packing trips, along other adventure activities

  • Teach outdoor living, camping skills, and Leave No Trace ethics

  • Maintain a constant awareness of and provide attention to individual camper needs

  • Assess and manage environmental and human risks

Flex Alpenguide

As a Flex Alpenguide, you will be considered a fully trained, qualified, and regularly paid Alpenguide who acts in a flexible support role throughout the summer season. Flex Alpenguides travel independently of camp groups (with camp provided vehicle) and act in a variety of roles:

  • “Third Alpenguide” : Act as support staff for Alpenguides in the field with camp groups, providing Alpenguides with breaks in the field, joining them in camp activities, assisting them in guiding, camping with them, and more. Flex Alpenguides may join and/or lead a camp group for a day or many days at a time.

  • “Support Staff” : Act as support staff for camp leadership, providing support in the Bozeman, MT office and remotely, creating social media posts, writing blog entries, cleaning vans and gear, driving vans, running errands, assisting in camper arrivals/departures, assisting in emergencies and/or evacuations, and more.

  • “Replacement Alpenguide” : Be expected to step in as an Alpenguide trip leader at any point during the summer season due to illness, injury, or early departure.

Flex Alpenguides are expected to remain flexible with regard to summer schedule and scheduling changes. You will be expected to work 24-hour scheduled work days (available night/day for camp duties) just as all Alpenguides do, however, your work hours during a scheduled work day will vary more than other Alpenguides and there are no set hours. You may work just a few hours in a scheduled work day, or as many as 24 in a scheduled work day. You are expected to remain available throughout the employment period - your days scheduled as “off” may change (by date and/or location) or be reduced at any time during the summer with little notice, but you will receive the same number of guaranteed days off as all Alpenguides.
