The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) seeks a qualified and enthusiastic prep cook for our Highland Center Lodge in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest. This seasonal opportunity assists in the preparation and delivery of meals - including breakfast, lunch, dinner and supporting the snack bar/deli - where 95% of the food is made from scratch. We strive for happy visitors and guests, and great food is a big part of the equation!
What You’ll Be Doing At AMC
Assist the kitchen and dining room staff by prepping fresh ingredients for all meals.
Prepare, set-up, operate, and clean the deli and sandwich station daily.
Serve guests during lunchtime hours by creating sandwiches to order.
Prep trail lunches each morning for specific times requested.
Assist in creating daily lunch specials that offer variety and nutrition to guests.
Support in covering breakfast and dinner services when other staff are unavailable.
Clean, sanitize, and inspect all work areas, exceeding New Hampshire Board of Health standards.
Our prep cook is expected to perform any other related duties, as may be required by their supervisor.
What AMC Is Looking For
Must be 18 years of age
Professional experience in preparing diverse meals that incorporate fresh, local and/or organic ingredients in an institutional setting is preferred.
Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to be a team player within a detail-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with the White Mountain National Forest and enthusiasm for AMC programs and mission is preferred.
Candidate must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and evenings on a routine basis.
Must be able to successfully complete the ServSafe food handling course.
Ability to stand, sit, walk for 8 hours at a time and lift to 60 pounds is required.
The ability to be self-sufficient during services.
Work alongside other kitchen staff with energy, efficiency, and the willingness to “go the extra mile” for our guests and fellow staff members.
What AMC Can Offer You
Salary range: $15.00/hr
We are committed to equitable compensation practices, and we encourage qualified candidates to apply. The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.

Room & Board: Dorm-style room for $45/week – meals included, too!
Insurance: Available with positions that are 6 months or longer and when working greater than 32 hours per week
Retirement: Voluntary 403(b) Contribution
