B Bar Ranch

Looking for variety in your work at a special place where both co-workers and guests make for a great experience?

While once a dude ranch and hunting lodge, today B Bar Ranch welcomes a wide range of guests with it's primary primary focus on health and wellness retreats, with a few select family gatherings and environmental and human rights non-profit groups annual board and staff retreats.

B Bar Ranch near Emigrant, MT, is nestled among the 10,000-foot peaks of the Gallatin mountain range in the Tom Miner Basin, which sweeps from Yellowstone National Park’s northern boundary to intersect with Montana’s fabled Paradise Valley. A wildlife mecca, we share our landscape with elk, deer, moose, grizzly and black bears, big horn sheep and mountain goats to name a few.

About B Bar Ranch

Living and working at the B Bar Ranch in Tom Miner Basin is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We are an authentic guest and cattle ranch that borders Yellowstone National Park and provides an experience that will stick with employees for the rest of their lives.

A working ranch since 1906, the B Bar provides range land for a herd of Ancient White Park and Angus cattle. Under the current ownership over the last 45 years, there has been increased attention to responsible land stewardship and sharing the ranch with guests.

Being a responsible steward of B Bar starts with our employees. Whether lying under the stars, breathing in crisp morning air, listening to elk bugle, or hiking a mountain, we love and appreciate this sacred space. Coexisting and treating all parts of the ecosystem between land, humans, and fauna as equal is a defining part of our organic ranch’s identity. What this means is that compassionately interacting with guests is just as significant as respecting and living with wildlife and natural systems.

You’ll fall in love with Montana here. At the end of your duration at B Bar, you’ll wonder about the next time you can come back. It is as much an inner journey as it is an exploration of the undisturbed ecosystem you live in. You’ll never feel so wild or free as the time you spend working or living at the B Bar.

At times the work can be tough, especially when all systems are firing in the busy summer season. There is no better feeling than ending a day grilling with co-workers, looking for wildlife, and relaxing in the tranquility of the basin.

The Employee Experience

B Bar Ranch is surrounded by majestic beauty.  Great hiking and fishing opportunities as well as a well designed disc golf course, tennis & pickle ball court.  The perfect environment for outdoor enthusiasts.

Associates work together to enhance the guest experience.  We at B Bar Ranch practice our core values in all of our interactions, not only with guests but with each other.

Especially for those wellness and ecologically minded folks, the groups we host provide for great networking opportunities.

Unlike most seasonal operations, our guests are typically here for four or more nights and employees have an opportunity to get to know our guests.  We are very fortunate that the guests we hosts are pleasant, respectful and very appreciative of the staff and their time on the ranch.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for applicants who are hard-working, self-motivated, flexible, ecology-minded, enjoy visiting with our guests, and are team-oriented.

While the tasks can at times be demanding and not-so-glamorous, you’ll experience a variety of responsibilities throughout the position. In addition, the opportunity for job growth and tailoring the position to your skills will be possible.

An ideal candidate would want to create an optimal experience for themselves during their time at the ranch and do their best to provide that to our guests during their stay. We host retreat groups consisting of yoga, meditation, hiking, fishing, family reunions, and more. When we aren’t hosting retreat groups, we curate in-house events value-aligned with our passions and lifestyle like regenerative agriculture, low-stress stockmanship, land monitoring, mindfulness, and of course organic beef.

With the capability of hosting as many as 42 guests, the Ranch at times is bustling with lots to get done and days are long. At other times, the vastness of the place becomes more apparent when the calm and quiet allow for other tasks to be tended to. Currently, our team in Tom Miner Basin consists of 10 full-time employees, and in the peak summer months, we employ an additional 8 or so seasonal workers. From cowboys to horticulturists and chefs, our family lives and breathes a true Montana lifestyle. If you appreciate the tranquility and beauty of a remote ranch tucked into the mountains and are interested in exploring the nooks and crannies it holds, you will do well in this place.

Room and Board

Working at the B Bar provides an authentic bunkhouse experience with an emphasis on quality of life. We provide housing, at no cost, for our seasonal employees. Rooms are fully furnished and the largest majority are single bedrooms, with shared bathrooms, a large living area, a full kitchen/dining area, and laundry facilities. These buildings are located on the ranch headquarters, with most being a short walk to work.

While some meals are provided on an irregular basis, we do not have ranch-wide employee dining facilities. You are responsible for purchasing and preparing your food and will find fully-equipped kitchens in your housing to do so.

Employee Perks

If you enjoy the outdoors, the mountains, and the likelihood of seeing everything from grizzly bears, wolves, moose, and elk herds that number in the hundreds all from your front and backyard, B Bar should be on the top of your list when deciding where to work.

During the welcome week at the beginning of the season, we will show you the ropes of how to effectively complete job duties and how to have fun in your off time. Every summer we take seasonal employees on a horseback or guided rafting trip at a destination around Yellowstone National Park.

Employee housing is free and we provide mostly single rooms to all seasonal employees.

We offer a competitive salary and provide the opportunity to work and play in one of the most spectacular settings in the Northern Rockies

Getting Here and Getting Around

Because of our relatively remote location, we encourage employees to have their own vehicles. If this is not possible, however, we are happy to arrange transport from the Bozeman, MT airport or bus station.

For Fun

Outdoor recreational opportunities abound on the ranch and the surrounding wildlands of Greater Yellowstone. The country begs to be explored by avid hikers. The fabled Yellowstone River (at the turnoff to the ranch) is a mecca for fly fishing. Yellowstone Park with its myriad of wonders is just 40 minutes away. Old Saloon and Pine Creek Lodge are known for a fun night in town and host well-known performers. Hot springs, rafting, camping, and limitless activities are also at our fingertips here at B Bar. Sometimes, grilling and star gazing are all you need to have a wonderful and relaxing night. We can’t wait for you to experience all the possibilities for adventure here!
