Retail & Rental Associate

The Bear Valley Adventure Company (BVAC) seeks an adventurous, customer service-driven individual to work in our store for the 2024/2025 winter season. This position focuses on welcoming guests, whether cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, tubing, or simply getting gas and snacks. BVAC operates a world-class cross-country ski and snowshoe resort, and our “adventure store" supports the resort by selling clothing, cross-country skis, snowshoes, and many other items for people to enjoy the outdoors. We also rent skis and snowshoes, and staff help folks get outfitted before heading out into our winter wonderland of groomed trails, sledding, and tubing hills. Training is provided for those less familiar with our activities. Adventure Retail & Rental Associates are expected to have fun at work. Teamwork is essential, and store staff works closely with outside operations to enable a smooth transition from the parking lot, through the store, and out onto the snow.

Bear Valley is a unique village at 7100 feet in the Sierra Nevada Range between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, only a 3-hour drive from San Francisco. Our strategic location receives a deep snowpack, even in an average winter. Our town is small but has big skiing and snowboarding opportunities. In addition to our operations, Bear Valley has an excellent downhill ski and snowboard resort and a lot of backcountry terrain to explore.

Housing:
Onsite affordable housing is available in a 4-bedroom apartment above our store. The accommodations include a shared kitchen, dining room, living room, and bathroom. A washer and dryer are also included. Our housing is near village amenities and a free shuttle bus to the downhill resort. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

• Promptly arrive to work with a positive and productive attitude.

• Contribute to the daily operations of opening, closing, and operating the store. This includes but is not limited to, cash handling, restocking, cleaning, and assisting with cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals.

• Maintain a professional appearance at work.

• Follow company safety policies and procedures.

• Attend training and staff meetings as required.

• Assist in snow removal in doorways and pathways.

• We are happy to train interested staff as cross-country ski instructors and technicians.

• Other duties as assigned.

BVAC was purchased by the Bear Valley Mountain Cooperative (BVMC) in December 2018. BVMC is a non-profit group of 450+ individuals invested in the betterment of Bear Valley. BVAC is at the forefront of this investment and is encouraged to maintain and improve offerings and services in Bear Valley.
