This position reports to: Property Manager 

Maintenance Job Description

Summary;

Maintenance Technician will provide general maintenance of the property including but not limited to, repairs throughout the Lodge and Hotel property interior and exterior (guest rooms, cabins, employee housing, restaurant, bathrooms, hallways, lobby, etc). Maintenance technician will maintain Lodge and Hotel appearance and equipment operating according to the Lodge and Hotel standards. Maintenance Technician will also maintain off-site property including hotel rooms, employee housing, commercial business spaces, long-term rentals, and mobile court grounds. 

This job entails doing maintenance at Cascade Lodge and Restaurant, Cliff Dweller on Lake Superior, and Lutsen Paradise Park, and at the employee housing associated with these businesses. This position works as part of the Maintenance team.

This job comes with affordable housing and a shift meal (private bedroom in shared housing or a completely private studio apartment).

This position works alone or with another maintenance technician during work week.

This position works at Cascade Lodge, Cliff Dweller Hotel, and Lutsen Paradise commercial/residential space.

Duties;

  • Performing routine maintenance around the grounds and buildings such as fixing structural damage, for example, window, door or wall repair.

  • Repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures, must possess plumbing knowledge to address leaks, clogs or other drainage problems.

  • Working on damaged electrical wiring when a shortage or severed wire occurs, must have basic electrical wiring capabilities to manage problems with the building’s electricity.

  • Blowing refrigeration compressors at the restaurant, troubleshooting refrigeration and cooking equipment issues, addressing maintenance in the dining room, bar, bathrooms, and kitchen.

  • Maintaining the building HVAC equipment in order to keep climate/heat control in the facility functioning properly.

  • Applying preventative measures to the exterior and interior of buildings to reduce the risk of future problems, such as using a sealant on a flat roof, using caulk around bathtubs, cleaning out sink drains, replacing screens in windows and doors, etc.

  • Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.

  • Painting or staining the buildings, decks, cabins, etc. when old paint/stain has become faded or chipped.

  • Carpentry ability to handle basic repairs around the building, installing new doors, window glazing, measuring, marking, cutting, ability to use basic carpentry tools.

  • Addressing small repairs in guest rooms, cabins, and employee housing; repairing door pulls, drawers, doors, replacing lamps, faucets, mini-fridges, microwaves, replacing bed frames.

  • Addressing property wi-fi connections; resetting modems and switches.

  • Addressing TV issues; replacing satellite tv boxes, batteries in remotes, TV units.

  • Providing shuttle service to guests to various trailheads in the area.

  • Winterizing properties; starting up heaters in crawlspaces, inspecting and maintaining off-peak heaters in units, putting away outdoor furniture, replacing screens with storm windows, etc.

  • Summer Groundskeeping including running the lawnmower, using equipment such as weed whacker, pruning saws, chainsaw. Doing road grading, asphalt sweeping and power washing, frost heave repair, setting out outdoor furniture, etc.

  • Winter Groundskeeping including running the snow plow truck, snow blower, snow shoveling stairs, walkways, and decks.

  • Summer trail maintenance, riding a tractor lawnmower, trimming tree branches, removing fallen trees off the trail.

  • Winter trail maintenance; grooming cross-country ski trails with various grooming equipment, including Piston Bully, snowmobile, snow roller, etc.

  • Respond to after hour calls and emergencies if needed.

  • Other reasonable general maintenance tasks as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have valid driver’s license.

  • 1+ years related experience or equivalent

Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions

  • Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions

  • Ability to perform the physical labor necessary

  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic maintenance

  • Commitment to excellence and high standards

  • Ability to work with management and coworkers

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills

  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams

  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Frequently required to stand

  • Frequently required to walk

  • Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity

  • Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl

  • Frequently required to talk or hear

  • Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard

  • Frequently required to lift/push/carry items up to 50 pounds

  • Frequently work on their feet for 3-4 hours before a break

  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions

  • Flexible schedule, some nights and weekends required based on business needs.
