Housekeeper/Barista

EarthSong Lodge, one of Denali National Park's most unique operations, is looking for an employee who wants an authentic Alaskan experience and have opportunities to explore one of the jewels of the National Park System.  Our small lodge offers guests and employees something no other business does, in a scenic and quiet environment.

EarthSong Lodge was established by a former Denali Park Ranger and is located along the scenic Stampede Trail from "Into The Wild" fame.  The lodge is on open tundra, above treeline, with expansive views of the Alaska Range.  It is also the closest lodge on the Park Entrance side to a view of Denali.  The lodge was established for guests who were more interested in staying at an authentic Alaskan place and being away from the noise and congestion of the Park Entrance/Canyon Area.  EarthSong Lodge has 14 cabins, a coffeehouse, and library.  While we can have up to 40 guests a night, the lodge has a bed-and-breakfast atmosphere, and guests choose us as part of their Denali experience, not just a place to sleep.  We have consistently been highly rated on multiple travel websites and in travel guides.

EarthSong Lodge is a small operation with a staff of 3-4 people in the summer months.  We seek to hire employees that are independent, reliable, flexible, responsive, and interactive with our guests.  The primary job is both housekeeping, and some employees work coffeehouse barista/cook.  Housekeeping consists of cabin cleaning, laundry, and tasks related to that job.  Morning coffeehouse shifts are shared among some employees, and one of our two positions will do 5 morning shifts at the coffeehouse and partial shifts with housekeeping.  While we are looking for employees with some of the skills related to this position, we believe that all the tasks can easily be learned and are open for applicants without any prior experience.

The work schedule by nature changes and some flexibility is needed by the employee.  Some days you may work a half-shift, other days some overtime.  Days off may change, due to the variability of number of cabin check-outs and busy days.  Schedules are made up at least two weeks in advance, so there is plenty of time to plan days off and excursions.  One position may be available as a part-time 20-24 hour/week position.

The EarthSong employee environment is different from most other places in Denali.  We are 5 miles from Healy (Post Office, grocery store, etc).  If employees do not have their own transportation we will assist in getting them to and from town and the park.  For this reason, we look to hire employees that are independent, do not need to constantly be participating in the local social/party scene, and prefer nature over taverns.  The employees that have enjoyed the summer with us the most have been the ones that like to hike, do photography, read, and be outdoor oriented.

We provide free housing for the employee, including free utilities and internet.  There is shared housing above the coffeehouse and one cabin.  Depending upon which quarters is available, you may have bathroom facilities attached to the building or need to use the shower house.  Final determination will be made when all staff arrive. 

Some local businesses offer free excursions to our employees.  We try and facilitate this and trips into the park so employees can make the most of their visit.
