Fairweather Marine Services

We operate a 100-ton motorized catamaran Coast Guard regulated vessel between Haines and Skagway in beautiful Southeast Alaska. We transport locals and travelers on the most efficient way to cross the Upper Lynn Canal. We pass waterfalls, otters, seals, eagles and occasionally whales within this unique and diverse biome. We aim to educate our guests about the rich environment and social history we inhabit while maintaining cultural humility for the stewards of the land.

Deckhand:

The job entails assisting the captain with the safe embarking and disembarking of the vessel, assisting guests as they load and off-load the vessel, and ensuring impeccable cleanliness of the vessel. We are looking for someone who is comfortable and able to work outdoors in adverse weather, able to squat, kneel, crouch, navigate steep ramps, stairs, and ladders. This position is a safety-oriented position as well as a customer facing position and requires teamwork and positive guest interaction. Deckhands will also hold one additional role either Naturalist or Engineer.

Naturalist:
This position requires a public speaking ability and experience using PA systems. The naturalist will develop a tour narrative with assistance from the team and provide a guided experience to the guests about the natural environment we cross over the duration of the trip. Naturalist will inform guests of glaciated river valleys, fjordal estuaries, waterfalls, wildlife and more for up to 150 guests. This position is a safety position and will require emergency orientation of the vessel as well as working with a team to maintain safety and vessel cleanliness. Biology, geology and natural history background a plus.
