We’re hiring a Firefighter to Live. Work. Explore. at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon!

 Job Summary:
Our Firefighters are to provide firefighting services and First Responder services for Xanterra South Rim.

The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Pay: $18.90 per hour
Housing: A private room in a shared apartment, $267/month, payroll-deducted
Schedule: Typically a straight 40-hour schedule with sleep built in (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays).

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to fire calls in Grand Canyon Village, as well as for any fires throughout the South Rim area. Investigate and/or report the incident working within NPS protocols.

  • Respond to EMS calls for all Xanterra properties and throughout the South Rim territory as assigned by NPS Fire Chief.

  • Participate in training sessions as designated by Xanterra Fire Captain, NPS Fire Chief, or Risk Manager.

  • Assist NPS Visitor and Resource Protection staff and/or Wildland Fire Battalion Chief, following their assignments and orders. Xanterra staff will operate under the Incident Command System for all South Rim incidents.

  • Maintain a professional working relationship with all NPS Law Enforcement, Fire Department and Technical Rescue employees.

  • Resolve situations within your control and within guidelines as established by Risk Manager and NPS Fire Chief.

  • Compile daily logs, report to appropriate entity, write reports in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Enroll, attend, and successfully complete ongoing training classes as determined by Fire Captain and/or NPS Fire Chief.

  • Perform BAT and Urinalysis testing to current standards on employees per company policy as needed.

  • Adhere to all Risk Management, safety, environmental, and NPS Fire Department policies.

  • May be called upon to assist with hazardous materials incidents performing to the certified level of training of each employee.

  • Must maintain current EMS certifications, Fire certifications and attend minimum annual Live Fire Refresher as hosted by NPS.

  • Complete an annual Wildland Pack Test to maintain Structural/Wildland eligibility which encompasses 45 pounds over three miles in less than 46 minutes.

  • Assist F&S Security Officers as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Fire Captain or NPS Fire Chief which may include daily, weekly, or monthly vehicle checks on fire apparatus or ambulances, cleaning of respective fire stations, snow removal, and/or cleaning of F&S vehicles and fire apparatus.


Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid National Registry EMT Certification.

  • Must possess HazMat Awareness and Operations certifications with either IFSAC or ProBoard accreditation.

  • Must possess Structural Firefighter I &II certifications with either IFSAC or ProBoard accreditation.

  • Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License and comply with the Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy.

  • Wildland (S-130/S-190) preferred, or complete within one year of hire.

  • Obtain Incident Safety Officer (ISO) Certification within two years of hire.

  • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 must be completed within six months of hire.

  • BAT and Urinalysis training must be successfully completed.

  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age at time of hire.

  • Ability to meet all medical and physical agility requirements for firefighters in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard 1001.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and problem solving skills; plus ability to interact effectively with guests, employees and other designated officials.

  • Ability to calmly deal with medical, fire, or safety situations.

  • Working knowledge of radio communications.
