Embrace your love for the outdoors as you lead exciting wilderness expeditions, dive into captivating environmental education, and unleash your inner mentor while guiding campers through epic outdoor escapades. Room and Board
Room, Board, and Laundry are included!
Counselors live in a duplex cabin with five to seven campers and a partner counselor. Our cabins have electricity and running water, and they are enclosed with screen windows and doors. Expect a classic summer camp experience, which means fairly rustic living! We do have a staff lounge with plenty of food storage, a fridge and microwave, a TV, and comfy couches. While leading trips, Expedition Leaders live in primitive shelters, either at their program Base Camp or on the trail. During training, scouting, and time off, Expedition Leaders will join Mentors and others in much more comfortable and modern housing. All other staff, including Mentors, Kitchen Staff, and Interns, live in comfortable cabin buildings with varied styles and amenities, from shared bathrooms to separate, from bunk beds to queen beds. All buildings have running water, electricity, and wifi. Almost every staff member will have one roommate.
Employee Perks
As a staff member at Green River Preserve you have access to 3,400 hundred acres of land to play on. We also boarder Dupont State Forest that has even more trails, waterfalls, and mountain biking trails to explore. In addition to the land, you will receive pro deal discounts. GRP also offers several precamp trainings including Wilderness First Aid and Lifeguarding. These are great certifications that last 2 years.
Getting Here and Getting Around
If you plan on flying to Green River Preserve, we will pick you up from the Asheville NC, or Greenville SC airport. Otherwise, employees are welcome to bring their own cars. The nearest town to GRP is Brevard NC. While there is no public transportation that can get you to Brevard, our community is great at offering rides into town.
For Fun
When the staff at Green River Preserve aren't inspiring campers, they're diving into their own adventure playground! Unwind with fellow staff at the beautiful Lake Summit, perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, or just soaking up the sun on its shores. Hit the trails for hikes through lush forests or try your hand at rock climbing. In nearby Brevard, explore downtown spots for local eats, eclectic shops, and live music. For adrenaline junkies, the area boasts stunning waterfalls and prime spots for mountain biking and tubing along the French Broad River. And don't miss the chance to discover Pisgah National Forest's wonders—trekking to jaw-dropping vistas or cooling off in its crystal-clear streams. At Green River Preserve, even staff downtime is an adventure waiting to happen!
