    Waterfront / Marina

    $15.00 - $17.00 / hour
    Grand Marais

    As a Waterfront team member at Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters, you will manage and rent out our fleet of fishing boats and pontoons, provide fishing support, and help Lodge guests with canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards on Gunflint Lake. We are looking for enthusiastic team members to instruct guests on boat usage and encourage use of marina activities.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Arrive ready to work as scheduled for dock responsibilities
    • Communicate well with co-workers, Supervisor, and front desk (reservations, waivers, etc.)
    • Manage upkeep of boats and motors
    • Instruct guests on safe boat operation along with an orientation to Gunflint Lake
    • Prepare boats for guest outings and clean & cover them upon return
    • Conduct self in a professional manner at all times

    • Demonstrate familiarity with Minnesota Boating Guide and Minnesota Fishing Regulations

    • Assist with sale of bait and fishing advice for Gunflint Lake
    • Clean fish house at end of day
    • Demonstrate initiative; make constructive use of down time. Tend beach, tidy boat house, maintain grounds, make minor repairs, etc.

    OCCASIONAL DUTIES

    • Fishing Fun Guide: Take kids under 12 fishing (with a parent or guardian) and teach them a lifelong love of the outdoors. This is a program offered free to Gunflint Lodge guests. Must be responsible, safety conscious, and able to interact with guests of all ages.
    • All activities employees are cross-trained for other areas and at times may be called on to do a job other than those specifically outlined. We look for versatile employees who bring a wide variety of experience.

    Activities

    Day Trip Guide

    $15.00 - $17.00 / hour
    Grand Marais

    The Day Trip Guide will schedule and lead guest outings into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and/or Superior National Forest. These day trips are unique revenue-generating excursions for the Lodge that complement on-site naturalist activities.

    Day trips will include both canoe outings and hiking outings, depending on guest signups for a given day. Gunflint Lodge offers a set of canoe trips beginning either at Gunflint Lake or various nearby BWCA entry points. Hiking trips may involve segments of the Kekekabic Trail, Border Route Trail, Caribou Rock Trail, or Crab Lake Spur to Bridal Falls.

    This is a role that rewards a love of outdoor activity, knowledge of local flora & fauna, and passion for guest engagement.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Manage daily duties as scheduled with supervisor and Naturalist/guide colleague(s)
    • Partner with supervisor to compose and communicate schedule of guest offerings
    • Develop & deliver a variety of learning experiences to in-house guests, including presentations, nature hikes, crafts & games, and occasional watercraft tours
    • Manage open hours, displays, and cleanliness of Gunflint Nature Center
    • Publicize educational offerings through front desk and other guest communications
    • Coordinate & recruit other naturalist facilitators on staff

    OCCASIONAL DUTIES

    All resort employees are cross-trained for other areas and can anticipate occasionally working at least one secondary function, depending on guest demand.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Bachelor’s degree (or working towards) in ecology/environmental science, biology, sustainability, or education
    • Current driver’s license
    • Minimum age 21 to drive guests
    • Completion of training in CPR and wilderness first aid

    Activities

    Canopy Tour Zipline Guide

    $15.00 - $17.00 / hour
    Grand Marais

    As a Zipline Guide for Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters’ Towering Pines Canopy Tour, you will lead treetop zipline tours for guests in the boreal forest of northern Minnesota.

    We are looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals to join our Canopy Tour guide team. Our guides provide guests with a unique, world-class adventure experience that includes an introduction to the flora and fauna of the Superior National Forest and unique geological formations of our landscape. Share an awe-inspiring adrenaline rush as you soar through the forest of majestic pine, birch and cedar trees, often at heights 100 feet above the canopy floor with our longest zip around 800 feet long. Our canopy tour consists of 8 zips, platform bridges, and a spiral staircase.

    **Mandatory training for this position takes place in mid-May. This position is available through the summer season, although winter jobs are occasionally available in other departments. The zipline course opens in mid-May and closes in late October.

    Gunflint Northwoods Outfitting

    Canoe Outfitter

    $15.00 - $17.00 / hour
    Grand Marais

    As a Canoe Outfitter at Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters, you will deliver outstanding guest service to families and groups before and after their Boundary Waters canoe trips.

    We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy wilderness adventure and who love the outdoors – and can share their enthusiasm with guests – as they contribute to the daily operations of our canoe outfitting business. In this role, you will answer guest questions, provide basic route and camping tips, provision food and gear (including watercraft), transport groups to/from entry points, and maintain cleanliness of accommodations, gear, and grounds.

    The canoe outfitting season runs from early May until early October. Candidates available for shorter periods will be considered only when full season needs are adequately covered.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Pack food and equipment for guests per pre-arranged reservations
    • Transport canoes, equipment, and people to various boat landings along the Gunflint Trail by van or pickup
    • Clean all returned equipment
    • Clean bunkhouses, cabins, and restrooms
    • Keep canoes and gear in good repair
    • Other activities to prepare groups for canoe trips, including basic guidance on gear usage, canoeing skills, backwoods etiquette, and leave no trace wilderness practices
    • Run point of sale for retail gift shop operations

    OCCASIONAL DUTIES

    • Assist Outfitting Supervisor in issuing permits and/or route planning
    • Provide meal service to specific groups
    • All seasonal activities employees are cross-trained for other areas and will be scheduled each week for at least one secondary function
    • This job occasionally requires working longer hours (on the clock)

    Guest Services

    Guest Services / Front Desk Associate

    $15.00 - $17.00 / hour

    As a Guest Services Associate at Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters, you will serve as a friendly resource for welcome and engagement with all guests, both in-house and those planning a visit to Gunflint. You will provide outstanding guest service to lodge guests and help future guests arrange life-changing stays.

    We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy wilderness adventure and who love the outdoors – and can share their enthusiasm with guests. In this role, you will answer guest questions, provide basic orientation to Gunflint Lodge, manage scheduling & point of sale, and serve as a critical point of contact between guests and other Gunflint staff members.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Interact frequently with guests to provide high-quality experiences.
    • Take guest reservations for rooms and all amenities & activities via telephone, e-mail, and in person to maximize revenue and guest experience.
    • Respond to guest needs and anticipate those not yet raised.

    • Manage merchandising and sales for gift shop areas.

    The Server/Bartender provides superior service and memorable dining experiences to restaurant guests by taking and delivering food and beverage orders. You will work in close collaboration with restaurant colleagues and follow established health and safety standards.

    Restaurant

    Cook

    $16.00 - $18.00 / hour

    Create memories and experiences for our guests through preparing and providing memorable meals in our resort restaurant. The Cook is responsible for the daily preparation, cooking, and plating of food items in the restaurant. As Cook, you will be expected to work independently and with a team to ensure both satisfaction of diners and coordination with servers.

    SAMPLING OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Set up cook station(s) according to restaurant guidelines.
    • Prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner.
    • Follow recipes, recommended portions, and presentation specifications as established by restaurant.
