At Hosmer Point Summer Camp, kids write home about how much they love the food - and parents write to ask for recipes! As part of the kitchen team, our cooks are the stewards of this important food culture. Work as part of a team of 3-4 cooks to prepare, serve, and clean up meals, feeding around 170 campers and staff at one time with an emphasis on fresh ingredients from our on-site gardens and local farms.  Work in our sunny, brand-new kitchen, with mountain views from every workstation. Perks include optional on-site shared or individual housing in rustic cabins; a fun, inclusive, and supportive work environment; and boundless opportunities for on-site mountain biking, boating, fishing, and outdoor recreation.

Dates, Compensation, and Housing:

Pay based on experience, $17 - $22/hour or salary of $430 - $630 plus full room and board for a 35-40 hour work week for those living on site. This is a full-time seasonal position, June 4 - August 10, with a potential for starting as early as May 27 and ending as late as October 1.

About the Job:

During the 8-week camp season, the kitchen serves approximately 170 campers and staff for breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner, 7 days per week.  Cooks work in teams of three to four in 7-8 hour shifts to prep, serve, and clean up.  Everyone on the team pitches in to make sure all tasks are complete!

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in food service settings (preferred but willing to train the right candidate).

  • Able to work standing for 8 hours and lift heavy pots.

  • Enjoys working as part of a loud and silly camp community; including working with, teaching, and supervising teens and young adults and being a positive role model.

  • Willing to work at our alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and drug-free campus (including staff housing).

About Hosmer Point:

Hosmer Point is a co-ed, overnight summer camp and outdoor education facility with an emphasis on building community and self confidence.  We have expanded quickly since our founding in 2010, and now offer 8 weeks of summer camp programming for 120 campers at a time. During spring and fall seasons, we offer team building and environmental education programs for school groups of 20 - 80 students, and provide event space and meals for groups of up to 150.

Hosmer Point is part of a larger non-profit foundation with the Craftsbury Outdoor Center.  Together, we share a mission to use sustainable practices and teach environmental stewardship. Our campers represent an increasingly broad spectrum of economic backgrounds, family structures, racial, ethnic, and gender identities, with about 60% coming from within Vermont. We seek to hire staff who will reinforce this continued diversification and support equal access to our programs and continued elimination of prejudices.
