Kachemak Bay Adventures offers guided kayaking and hiking tours in Kachemak Bay, based in beautiful Homer, Alaska, 220 miles south of Anchorage.
We are a locally owned and operated family business with extensive knowledge and experience kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking, and skiing in Alaska. We operate two remote basecamps in Kachemak Bay State Park and are always excited to share the fun and adventure of this place we call home.
At Kachemak Bay Adventures, we maintain a friendly and team-orientated environment consisting of people who love the natural world and are eager to share with others the wonders of Kachemak Bay.
For the 2025 summer season, we have three guide positions available. Based on interest and experience, one individual will be offered the role of lead kayak guide, with the other two positions serving as assistant guides.
Assistant Guide Requirements:
Have current First Aid and CPR certification
Able to hike up to 6 miles a day
Able to lift and move up to 65lbs
Have a friendly and outgoing manner
Demonstrate positive and patient communications skills
Assist with all aspects of tour logistics as needed
Lead Guide Requirements:
In addition to the requirements above, the Lead Guide should meet the following:
Able to perform all aspects of kayak rescue techniques
Understand the daily tidal fluctuations and weather of Kachemak Bay
Able to identify the common wildlife, birds, and animals within the intertidal zone of Kachemak Bay
Familiarity with the First People of Kachemak Bay
Understand the impacts of climate change and its effects on Kachemak Bay
It is our goal to advance assistant guides to a lead guide position after they demonstrate the following:
Perform all kayak rescue techniques
Able to plan and coordinate a trip on their own
Understand the tidal fluctuations and weather of Kachemak Bay
Able to identify the common wildlife, birds, and animals within the intertidal zone of Kachemak Bay
Familiarity with the First People of Kachemak Bay
Understand the impacts of climate change and its effects on Kachemak Bay
Training:
Training takes place the week of May 23rd for kayak rescue (American Canoe Association), tour routes, tidal fluctuations and weather, identifying common wildlife, birds, and animals of the intertidal zone of Kachemak Bay, and climate change and its effect on Kachemak Bay.

Based on experience
