Naturalist

$20.00 / hour

Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge

The Naturalist position is responsible for coordinating and facilitating different island programing and activities. The island Naturalist will conduct beach walks, informational talks about the island's history, surrounding geography, wildlife, and nearby Kenai Fjords National Park. This position will have the opportunity to engage with our Day Lodge guests and briefly educate them about Fox Island. The Naturalist will help assist with other island guest needs such as pre-arrival duties and future programing.

• Provide exceptional services and respect to guests
• Developing and presenting different educational programs to guests
• Developing and providing activities for guests
• Organize and maintain lodge, props, slides, and guide areas
• Maintaining fishing gear and assist guests with obtaining fishing licenses
• Organize and maintain guest lagoon water equipment
• Organize and maintain library and art supplies
• Provide excellent customer service to guests and other team members
• Make sound judgments and anticipate issues and opportunities
• Handle comments, complaints and concerns with a high level of efficiency and in the best interest of the guest
• Be knowledgeable of daily functions or activities occurring at the Lodge and in area to answer guests’ questions

As a Cook, you will coordinate activities and engage in preparing and cooking food served to the Day Lodge guests. You will ensure guests receive consistent high quality meals and overall dining experience. You will work with team members within your department and others to complete the following tasks:
• Prepare buffet meal for guests following recipes and direction from Chef
• Provide excellent service to both guests and team members
• Ensure all guests’ special needs are met, including dietary restrictions
• Estimate food consumption and purchases or requisitions food and kitchen supplies
• Ensure efficiency and timely food production and safety
• Participate in the provisioning of the island to include loading and unloading of supply vessels, conducting inventories and properly and safely storing items

As the Wilderness Lodge Sous Chef, you will work directly with the Chef to coordinate activities and direct the training of the prep cook and dishwasher to ensure efficiency and profitable food service. The wilderness lodge kitchen is a friendly environment, where servers and chefs work closely together to meet our guest needs and where guests are welcomed daily for a culinary experience. You will ensure guests receive a memorable dining experience. You will work with team members within your department and others to complete the following tasks:
• Prepare, cook and clean after all meals are served in the Wilderness Lodge
• Provide excellent service to both guests and team members
• Ensure all guests’ special needs are met, including dietary restrictions
• Supervise kitchen staff to ensure efficiency and timely food production and safety

This is a remote, boat-in position located in Kenai Fjords National Park. Due to this, all positions at KFWL require assisting in other departments.

As the Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for the daily maintenance and repair of lodge property and equipment while maintaining a safe environment for guests and team members. You will assist in the following duties:  

• Respond to maintenance requests
• Communicate daily with Front Desk and Housekeeping team members to respond to immediate needs
• Ensure grounds and landscaping are well kept at all times
• Perform standard daily lodge usage and safety checks
