The Assistant Store Manager at Montana Supply is salary exempt, full-time year-round employee who is responsible for assisting the Store Manager with leading a team of Sales Associates & Shift Leads to assist customers in their shopping needs while maintaining the sales floor standards and company policies.
Primary Duties
Sales Floor Management:
Greets customers in a professional and friendly manner upon entering the store.
Sets an example for the Sales Team by role modeling great punctuality, customer service, and leadership.
Knows and memorizes store policies, sales, promotions, and other events.
To the best of their ability, answers any questions a customer may ask regarding merchandise, store policies, promotions, local information and more. The Assistant Manager knows when to escalate customer situations to the Store Manager.
Improves customer engagement with merchandise and coaches sales team members on active listening and product knowledge.
Stays up to date with new product releases, product locations on the floor, and current inventory availability.
Operates cash registers properly and with accuracy. Fixes inaccuracies efficiently.
Effectively executes and trains up-selling techniques.
Sales Team Management:
Works directly with the Store Manager to publish the upcoming schedule. In order to avoid employee frustration, the schedule should always be posted two weeks prior to the schedule start date.
Assists with interviewing, hiring and firing direct reports.
Ensures that leads & associates are upholding customer service & visual merchandising standards
Stays current on daily, weekly, and monthly goals. Prioritizes goals and tasks, delegating to the sales team when necessary to meet deadlines.
Handles complex customer situations and offers support for Leads and Associates when necessary.
Identifies training gaps of direct reports and utilizes downtime as trainable moments so that each team-member can be successful in their position.
Oversees floor coverage and zoning for the day.
Coordinates sales team breaks and lunches outside of peak business hours.
Ensures that a minimum of two team members are on the floor after 10 am during normal ‘in-season’ operating hours whenever possible.
Never leaves associate(s) unsupervised on the floor (without the presence of a shift lead or higher manager).
Addresses any schedule conflicts or unexpected changes that may arise during a shift or published schedule.
Reviews time and attendance documentation and communicates infractions to Store Manager (sick/late/no show).
Hold sales team meetings twice-per-year in late June and mid-December (before December 20th). Managers are authorized to hold additional meetings with the sales team if any important information or changes occur.
Inventory & Supplies Management:
Remove damaged product from inventory daily through Lightspeed’s Inventory Counts
Close inventory counts monthly
Assist with annual inventory counts
Communicate directly with Administrative Assistant regarding defective merchandise.
Frequently compare the sales floor & backstock room, bringing product up from backstock when necessary
Assist purchasing team with merchandising projects when requested
Identify product that should be discounted based upon markdown procedure
Rotate product on the sales floor to ensure optimal sell-through
Ensure all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability
Check stock levels of essential operations supplies and request and/or place orders as needed

Previous experience supervising teams
Cash handling, including opening and closing registers
Basic technological familiarity including some knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to read, write and perform basic math
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Capable of lifting 50 lbs
