Aquatics Director

The Aquatics Director is a key member of the supervisory team at Camp Ramapo, a residential camp that serves young people with social, emotional, or learning challenges. This role will ensure the general safety of all campers and staff at the waterfront/pool, supervise the lifeguard team, and oversee all Camp Ramapo aquatics programs. This is a seasonal position that comes with room and board. Opportunity is available to join the year-round team as a Retreats Program Supervisor contingent upon related experience in outdoor education and ropes course facilitation. Responsibilities:

• Ensure the general safety of campers and staff at the waterfront and pool.

• Supervise the lifeguard team, including training new lifeguards on waterfront procedures and safety protocols, providing ongoing feedback and development, and managing daily schedules. 

• Ability to assess swim levels.

• Manage lake and pool facilities and equipment, keeping all program spaces free of hazards. 

• Manage any waterfront emergencies, including follow-up documentation. 

• Participate in all aspects of summer camp programming and assist with program needs that may arise.

• Serve as a leader in the camp community. 

Qualifications:

• Ability to pass Waterfront Lifeguarding certification with corresponding certifications in  CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.

• Ability to obtain Waterfront Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.

• Experience lifeguarding in non-pool locations—particularly lakes and rivers.

• Experience managing a team and supervising staff. 

• Minimum two or three seasons as a lifeguard.

• At least 21 years of age.
