- Safely operate and navigate the vessel, considering weather conditions and passenger safety.
- Execute efficient mooring and unmooring procedures as needed.
- Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and navigate according to established routes.
- Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of the vessel, conducting regular safety checks.
- Coordinate with crew members and guests to facilitate smooth boarding and disembarking of passengers.
- Monitor and manage fuel consumption, engine performance, and other operational aspects.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, providing safety instructions and answering questions.
- Take appropriate action in emergency situations, prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew.
- Maintain proper documentation, including logs, incident reports, and required certifications.
- Stay updated on maritime industry trends, regulations, and safety standards.
- Deliver from memory an informative narrative to our guests about the island's marine life, history and ecology as set forth in the approved tour script guidelines.
- 50 Ton USCG Master Near Coastal Captain’s License
- Must be 18 years of age
- Able to speak to groups of guests up to 100 at a time
- Highschool or GED Diploma.
- Proficient in boat handling with a focus on safety and efficiency.
- 50 Ton USCG Master Near Coastal Captains License.
- First aid and CPR certification (training provided).
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills to ensure a positive tour experience
- Prior experience in a boating environment preferred.
- Prior experience handling ropes and lines is preferred.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, push and pull on a regular basis.
- Must have full range of overhead motions and full hand dexterity.
- Requires visual acuity and the ability to hear clearly to communicate with managers, coworkers and guests
- This position requires a flexible schedule with shifts that consists of a rotating schedule of weekday and weekend shifts, including day, night, and holiday work hours.
- Drive tours through the town of Avalon and out into the interior of the Island
- Always ensure exemplary customer service skills
- Deliver commentary on the island history, wildlife, flora & fauna
- Properly document pre-trip inspections & passenger counts
- Properly document any accidents or incidents
- Must have a valid California commercial Driver’s License with a clean record

- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Previous tour driver experience & airbrake endorsement preferred
- High School/GED diploma

- Obtain the Naturalist certification through the Catalina Island Conservancy.
- At time of appointment, a valid commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement and satisfactory driving record that is maintained throughout employment.

Boat Tour Operator / Captain
As a Boat Tour Operator, your role involves warmly welcoming and guiding guests on captivating tours, such as the Undersea Sub Expedition, Glass Bottom Boat, Discover Two Harbors, and the seasonal Flying Fish Voyage. Your responsibilities include ensuring a seamless experience for all guests. U.S. Coast Guard (U.S.C.G) Licensed Personnel exclusively handle the transportation of the vessels, emphasizing safety and enjoyment. With a focus on exceptional customer service and proficiency in a variety of tours, you will play a crucial part in delivering memorable and enjoyable maritime experiences for our guests.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of tours & excursion activities for Catalina Island visitors. Performs pre-trip vehicle inspection and safety checks. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is an advanced level classification in the Motor Tours & Activities series responsible for performing a variety of driving and spiel / narrative functions as well as performing a variety of routine daily vehicle inspections (DVIR), interacting with guests and exemplary customer service skills.

Operators of tour buses and offroad tour vehicles work primarily in an outdoor environment with moderate noise levels. May work in cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. Tour vehicle operators will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.
Working Conditions
Drivers may be assigned an on-call and irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
Barista / Counter Attendant
Need customer service-oriented individual to work the counter at the Atwater Bistro assisting customer with orders from Bistro menu items. Open 6:30am-Noon.
Bartenders
We need an enthusiastic Bartender with a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills to provide a fabulous guest dining experience. Our ideal candidates have previous experience as a mixologist, take pride in their work, are highly organized and are proactive. ($16.00-16.90+tips )
Bussers
Clean restaurant tables and re-set tables for customer use. Assists wait staff with minor requests from customers.
Campground Ranger
Responsible for cleaning and maintaining campsites to ensure grounds are well kept and meet company appearance standards. Perform minor repairs for guest facilities, as necessary. Assist guests with inquiries as needed.
Cooks
We are looking for dedicated cooks to prepare high-quality meals in accordance with health and safety regulations and as outlined by our Chef’s recipes. The cook’s responsibilities include following instructions relating to the timely preparation of food orders, organizing workstations, and assisting other cooks as needed. You should also be able to ensure that the refrigerators and storerooms are kept clean and tidy, products are properly sealed and labeled, and ensure food rotation.
To be successful as a cook, you should be able to use various cooking techniques and methods to prepare meals. A strong performer will be able to handle multiple food orders without compromising on the quality of the food they are preparing.
Dishwashers
Reliable, service-oriented individuals who enjoy working in hospitality. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of kitchen items. Duties include washing dishes and keeping surrounding work area clean and organized. Previous experience in a fast-paced environment is helpful.
Food Runners
Greet guests with a positive, friendly attitude. Provide information about menu items, and specials. Deliver food in a timely manner. Monitor and observe guests dining experience to ensure guests are satisfied with food and service
Front Desk Agents & Guest Services
Manage guest arrivals and departures. Perform administrative duties including telephone calls, guest reservations, guest concerns/requests. Work with housekeeping for updated room status and coordinate requests for maintenance and repair work. Must be proficient with computers. Day and Night shifts.
Hosts
Assist management and our servers by welcoming and seating guests. Greet them with a smile, answer their questions.
Restaurant Supervisor
Manage day to day operations for restaurant front of house. Hire, supervise and train staff. Manage work schedules and execute daily shift meetings to set direction for the shift. Ensure delivery of high-quality food and exceptional service in a clean and well-maintained restaurant environment.
Security
Seeking seasonal Security Guards based in Avalon and Two Harbors. Responsibilities include securing premises, patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and addressing any violations. Previous experience in security or law enforcement preferred.
Servers
Greet guests with a positive, friendly attitude. Communicate menu items, specials, and provide recommendations and pairings. Provide excellent customer service by ensuring the guests’ needs are met and a pleasant experience is provided. ($16.00-16.90+tips)
Zipline & Aerial Adventure Guide
We are looking for people to soar through the air and navigate the ropes. Descanso Canyon Adventure Guides perform a variety of opening and closing tasks and safety checks, leads and directs guests as they navigate various course elements, and ensures each guest has an enjoyable and memorable experience; and performs related work as required. The position requires a pre-employment physical and is subject to drug/alcohol testing.
