Residential Counselor Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Align student education and residential services with IEP and ILP plans.

  • Assist residents with residential programs and daily routines.

  • Complete required record-keeping, data collection, and documentation.

  • Select and supervise activities suited to each resident’s capabilities.

  • Attend program and behavior meetings, orientation, and training sessions.

  • Perform household chores, with or without student assistance.

  • Ensure residents are dressed appropriately, respecting their rights and dignity.

  • Advocate for and protect clients' rights per current policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a mature and positive attitude with residents, staff, and guardians.

  • Perform other duties as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following:

    • Associate degree in Residential Care, Human Services, Education, Counseling, Psychology, or Recreation.

    • 2 years or 1000 hours of experience working with children, plus 60 college credits (including 12 in specified fields).

    • 2000 hours of experience working with children, plus 24 credits in specified fields.

    • Parent of a child over 7 years old.
