Who We’re Looking for

Someone who is excited by the opportunity to support all aspects of maintaining a large, complex working educational campus. Working with the Buildings and Landscape Manager, and grounds and facilities teams, you’ll perform diversified duties to troubleshoot, improve, repair, protect, and maintain campus facilities and equipment. Important functions of this position include providing support for both grounds and facilities operations, working closely with other teams on supporting the farm’s education, visitor, and community programs, and serving as an on-site emergency response person. 

What You’ll Do

  • Assist the Buildings and Landscape Manager and Shelburne Farms team with 24/7 coordination and support for day to day campus stewardship, operating systems, and services to advance the nonprofit’s mission and goals.

  • Coordinate and facilitate preparation and breakdown for Farm and community events, functions, and programs (program committee).

    • Weather monitoring, traffic management, parking, event set-up and take-down

  • Provide emergency first response and support accident prevention, building and life safety, and security support for guests, residents, and staff

    • Serve as emergency on-site manager (working with emergency response coordinator)

    • Oversee surveillance systems

  • Conduct beach water quality testing

  • Coordinate farm vehicle maintenance as needed

  • Support general farm operations 

    • Winter road maintenance, snow removal from walkways, inn maintenance during open season, etc.

  • Buildings maintenance focus on east campus - Farm Barn, Welcome Center and Breeding Barn

  • Assist with planning and cost management of buildings and landscape maintenance.

Core Qualifications (All candidates must meet these qualifications to be considered for the position)

  • Relevant education and work experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, H.V.AC., and building trades

  • Able to work independently as needed

  • Valid driver's license that meets the minimum requirements:

    • No more than one at-fault accident, two minor moving violations, or two non-moving violations within the past year AND

    • Zero major moving violations within the past three years (examples: driving with suspended/invalid license, DUI, reckless driving). No more than two major moving violations in the past 10 years

  • Computer and internet proficiency to include Google Suite tools

  • Level head in stressful situations

  • Able to work longer weeks during peak demand periods and flexible to work evenings, weekends, holidays

Additional Valued Qualifications  (Helpful for success in this role, but not required to apply)

  • Certifications: Certifications such as a Journeyman Plumber, Electrical, or HVAC License are helpful but not required for this role.

  • Work in outdoors under all weather conditions

  • Move over uneven terrain

  • Move up and down a ladder up to 8 feet.

  • Moving while carrying items that weigh up to 75 lbs

  • Work with and around large farm animals

  • Operate tools and equipment using safety precautions
