- Advises and counsels students regarding educational and short-term social and emotional challenges.
- Remains universally accessible and tries to know every student.
- Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their caregivers regarding academic, social, and emotional matters.
- Prepares and instructs our Life Skills, College and Career Readiness, and Social Emotional Learning classes.
- Provides counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information and offers workshops/seminars for caregivers.
- Medication and appointment management for all students.
- Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions for each student’s social and emotional education needs and abilities.
- Participates on the Academy Administrative Team, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with the Head of School on targeted outcomes.
- Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures.
- Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists.
- Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
- Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.
- Participates in the school’s Emergency On-Call rotation.
- Serves as part of the School Improvement and Accreditation Team.
- Participate and assist in training.
- Assists in the oversight of the Academy at SOAR Summer programs.

- Master’s Degree in School Counseling or related field preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of school counseling experience preferred.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or higher.
- Dedication and a strong desire to work with neurodiverse youth in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators, and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics that may be sensitive.
- Familiarity with student assessment tools, especially in evaluating and interpreting standardized test results.
- Knowledge of educational software.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and basic computer applications.
- The Academy School Counselor will be required to work a traditional school schedule, with some overnight and weekend requirements based on the program travel and the On-Call rotation.

School Counselor
Academy at SOAR is an accredited adventure-based private boarding school in Western North Carolina's mountains. We serve youth with ADHD and other learning differences in grades 7-12. Students operate on a 4-week cycle: two weeks on campus and two weeks traveling. The Academy at SOAR offers an alternative learning environment that combines academics, adventure, and life skill development to help prepare our students academically, socially, and emotionally for adulthood.
The Academy School Counselor is an integral part of the Academy Administrative Team that functions as part of the school’s oversight. Admissions Coordinator
SOAR, Inc. is looking for a dependable individual who has the desire to do excellent work with integrity and to support SOAR’s nonprofit mission by acting as the Admissions Director. North Carolina Adventure Field Staff
SOAR NC is currently seeking dedicated field staff who are passionate about engaging with neurodivergent youth and leading adventure-based programs centered around outdoor education and life skill development!
North Carolina's Balsam Base offers expedition-style trip and travel adventures that range from 10-17 days. Programs are co-ed, with each group comprising up to 8 campers supervised by two field staff and a course director.
Activities include rock climbing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, backpacking, llama treks, horseback riding, and caving. Programs may also feature cultural and STEM-based experiences in the mountains of Western NC.
Responsibilities include:

Wyoming Adventure Field Staff
Currently looking for enthusiastic trip leaders who are passionate about working with neurodivergent youth in the outdoors for the 2025 summer season in WYOMING!
Based in Dubois, Wyoming, Eagle View Ranch is SOAR's western basecamp for 17-day expedition-style adventures during the summer season. Programs are co-ed with a max of eight students supervised by two Field Staff. A course director and/or an activity specialist may also be helping out depending on the activity.
Activities include rock climbing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, backpacking, horseback riding, archery and hatchet throwing, and exploring nearby Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks and the Wind River Range.
SOAR provides room and board for the summer season, and all staff participate in extensive, hands-on trainings led by professionals in the recreation and human services fields. Wilderness First Aid, Lifeguard, and Behavioral First Responder certifications are also provided.

Canoe Paddling Specialist

Wrangler
SOAR's Eagle View Ranch is looking for experienced Horse Wranglers for the summer 2025 season! The program is designed to work with youth with ADHD and other learning differences.
Wranglers at SOAR are in charge of the horseback riding program at camp. All groups participate in one day of horse school and one day of trail riding. Our horsepacking-specific course takes campers and staff into the backcountry for a 3-day, 2-night camping trip.
Risk management is incredibly important, and Wranglers should be able to recognize and respond quickly to unsafe situations while riding.
Youth with ADHD and/or other learning differences are very intelligent and creative, but also struggle with issues like impulsivity, disorganization, inattention, poor social skills, and difficulty with some motor skills.
Wranglers should be able to demonstrate patience and adaptability while also upholding expectations.

Cook
Full time seasonal position (with option for paid internship) as Cook at at our ranch in Wyoming. The program is designed to work with youth and young adults with ADHD and other learning differences students.
Responsibilities include:
To plan, purchase, prepare and serve healthy and balanced meals for campers and staff, as well as assist in clean up. The Cook will coordinate with the Director to create the menus and adjust them to accommodate dietary restrictions. They will maintain professional relationships with local vendors that food is purchased from. They will maintain kitchen related facilities in a responsible and orderly manner including regular cleaning of all kitchen space and appliances. It is the responsibility of the Cook to assist the Director to ensure the kitchen, food room, and any other facilities associated with food service meet current health inspection codes.
The Cook will interact with youth during food service. As such, the Cook must be able to promote a fun but professional atmosphere. Interactions with students must be positive and appropriate in tone and content. If there are any issues that arise regarding student behavior, the cook should enlist the Adventure Camp Staff to respond to those issues.
Qualifications for the position include:
At least 21 years of age; clear background check; understanding of food service needs associated with camps or large groups (up to 100); experience ordering from Sysco or similar distributors; an awareness of and commitment to a healthy and nutritional food service plan; understanding of dietary restrictions, experience with food sensory issues preferred; ServSafe Certification preferred.
Benefits: Base pay at $5,000 for total contracted time. Pay could be higher depending upon experience and qualifications. Room and board are provided on site. (A room with a view of the Rocky Mountains)
