  • Bike Mechanic

    Taos Ski Valley, Inc. offers premier lift access mountain biking, bike rentals, and repair services and weekly events at the Kachina Basin. Additionally, we offer electric-assist mountain bike rentals and repair services at the Blake Hotel in the main base area.  We provide elevated, fully supported road and mountain biking experiences for our guests on resort and in the region.  Planning for our biggest summer yet, we are offering an experienced bike mechanic to join our team in the Sangre de Christo mountains of Northern New Mexico!

    Bike Mechanics at Taos Ski Valley, Inc are provided all the tools needed to complete their work professionally, in 2 different locations on the resort.  Bike Mechanics are provided seasonal passes for lift access and use of fleet bikes. Staff housing, on or near the resort, is available seasonally. Continuing education opportunities may be available. Managed by Resort Services, our summer bike operations appreciate the support of, and actively participate in resort retail, rental, and special event operations.

    Hourly compensation based on a Taos County Living Wage and commensurate with prior professional experience.

    Qualifications/Knowledge

    • 3 years / seasons minimum repair work in an established bicycle repair facility. 
    • Mountain bike suspension, brakes and related service experience required.
    • Mechanic certification preferred but not required.
    • Retail point-of-sale software experience preferred.
    • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple functions simultaneously in a high-pressure environment and on strict deadlines.

    Work Environment:

    • Establishing internal audit procedures
    • Manage the credit card chargeback process; in addition to reconciling credit card payments in-transit

    Hosts are responsible for running the front desk with the highest possible standards to create a dining experience that will ensure guest satisfaction.     Qualifications/Knowledge:

    • Understanding of Microsoft Office, strong typing skills and computer knowledge
    • 2 years’ supervisory experience required

    Work Environment:

Taos Ski Valley, Inc. is often a fast-paced work environment, especially during Holiday and Peak days.     The Lift Mechanic will maintain, repair, and assist in the operation of the chairlifts by completing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and preparing lifts for daily operation in compliance with all ANSI B77.1 standards.

    • Perform all summer maintenance work including line work, grip work, and general maintenance.
    • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventory and conserve resources by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipate equipment, parts, and supplies and use equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
    • Prepares operational and maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
    • Executing scheduled annual, monthly, weekly, and daily maintenance on the chairlift and mechanical equipment.
    • Responding to and determining the cause of lift problems with the public on board.
    • Perform all tasks associated with inspecting, repairing, and maintaining lift equipment including:
    • Tower machinery and sheaves.
    • Drive equipment, such as gearboxes, drive belts, electric motors, diesel engines, and bearings.
    • Hydraulic and mechanical tension and braking systems.
    • Carriers, grips, clips, and detachable grips.
    • Bullwheels, terminals, towers, haul ropes, control systems, batteries
    • Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examine the form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments. Repair or replace defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricate and clean parts. Start devices to test their performance.
    • Carries out all company procedures for mechanical failures, lift evacuation, adverse weather conditions or any other occurrence which may adversely affect the safety of the passengers on lift equipment.
    • Prepare chairlifts daily for operational use.
    • Complete required departmental maintenance log sheets and record keeping.
    • Keeps current on all ropeway safety requirements as outlined in the latest edition of the ANSI B77 manual.
    • Maintains tools, vehicles, and equipment in clean and good working condition.

    • Must possess a valid driver’s license
    • Must be able to climb chairlift towers wearing a fall protection harness, while carrying tools, to troubleshoot / repair equipment at heights up to 65 feet while chairlift is running.
    • Must be able to operate a snowmobile, with public on the mountain safely, and respond to stopped lift issues quickly and efficiently in all types of snow conditions including deep powder.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
    • Knowledge of lift safety codes and standards – ANSI B-77 Standard, preferred
    • Familiar with lift operation and controls, preferred
    • Possession of personal tools and understanding of tool use safety, preferred

    20% of the workday is spent indoors: 80% of the workday is spent outdoors in constantly changing weather conditions, including snow, extreme cold and wet in winter, and heat, thunder, and lightning storms in summer. 60% of the day is spent walking, 35% of the day is spent standing and 5% is spent sitting. Frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds and pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 250 pounds (buddy lifts are required to maintain personal safety). Constantly using and monitoring controls that operate lifts and using heavy tools. Constantly climbing heights up to 65 feet, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching. 

    Constantly listening to machinery sounds and smelling for gases and odors, near and far acuity, depth perception, color, and field of vision. 60% of the time noise levels reach 75 - 110 decibels. Constant exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards, high exposure work site, burns, and radiant energy. Frequent exposure to fumes, odors, and gases.
