About Treebones

Treebones is a family-owned and operated Resort in Big Sur. We offer glamping accommodations (Yurts, camping and a few other unique structures). We have two Restaurants on-site, an Organic Garden, and offer Yoga Classes and Massage Services. We have a heated pool and hot tub for guest use. We also have a unique gift shop. Our maximum occupancy is around 65 people.

The Employee Experience

Most of our employees live on-site and work full time (30-40 hours a week, 5 days a week). Except for special circumstances, employees can expect to have two days in a row off each week, and we try our best to schedule couples with the same days off. Most employees are cross trained and work at least two different departments, which most people like, and also give more flexibility to the schedule.

Ideal Candidate

Treebones is an ideal work live experience for a mature, yet energetic individual or couple who is interested in committing to 2 or more years with us. We are in a very beautiful, and remote location which is ideal for someone who is self-contented and enjoys the outdoors, surfing, boogie boarding, hiking, beaching, or has other hobbies such as music, art, cooking, etc. Our team is fun and welcoming, and each person (or couple) lives independently. While there are opportunities for social gatherings often, it’s typically not a daily occurrence. The closest small town and small grocery store is 45 45-minute drive away. Larger towns with brand name stores (like Trader Joe’s) are 1.5 hours drive away.

Room and Board

We have on-site housing available for individuals and couples. These are varying types of tiny homes. All have their own kitchenette, and either shared or private restroom and shower. Rent typically ranges around $350 - $550 depending on the unit. All utilities are included, except Wifi (there is limited wifi available at the Lodge, and most employees get their own internet. Starlink works best.) There is almost no housing available in Big Sur otherwise.

Employee Perks

Employees enjoy highly subsidized, affordable rent in on-site housing. Certain shifts receive a shift meal. All staff receive a discount in the gift shop and restaurant. We host 2-3 concerts a year, past artists have included: Rising Appalachia, Donovan Frankenreiter, White Buffalo, Brothers Comatose, & California Honeydrops. Our season is mid-February through mid-December. We ask everyone to commit to at least one full season. Team members who commit to a second season will receive free rent from mid-December to mid-February, and will typically be able to collect unemployment during that time.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Staff must have their own vehicle. There is no public transportation in our area, so while there’s no commute to and from work- everyone needs to be able to get to town on their own for groceries and other necessities.

For Fun

Because of our remote location, we are best suited for employees who are either familiar with rural living or know they enjoy a quieter pace of life. There are several great beaches with surfing nearby, plenty of beautiful hikes, and occasional social events and gatherings either on-site or elsewhere in Big Sur. Hobbies like reading, art, cooking, creating, and music are great outlets to have here.
