The Groundskeeper/Waste Management/Maintenance position applicant needs to be well-versed in waste management and a variety of maintenance skills. Job duties include:
Collection of rubbish; Operation of Incinerator; crushing glass and aluminum recyclables;
Chopping of firewood for multiple locations; restocking firewood;
Starting fires in fireplaces & pits daily;
Minimal Groundskeeping work for a 4+ acre property; In this wilderness location there is a riding lawnmower and some prickly weeds to remove and whack back from high foot traffic areas - other than that - we let nature take it's course.
Routine plumbing, painting, electrical, etc. for problems that may arise in guest rooms;
Prompt replacement of propane containers for our hot water heaters;
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and problems; and,
Ability to take direction, and work independently to complete the task at hand.
This position works under the direction of the Facilities Lead. Waste management takes about 1/3 of the work day. Days are ~ 10 hrs.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Tips are Pooled.
Room and board are a part of the compensation package.
Transportation to and from Juneau is reimbursed upon the successful completion of the season. Other benefits and perks disclosed during interview.
The approximate work dates for this position are early June 2025 to the third week of September 2025.
Whaler's Cove Lodge is a sport fishing lodge located on Killisnoo Island in remote Southeast Alaska, and is in its 43rd year of welcoming guests. This year approximately 450 guests will be joining us during our 68 day season.
Whaler's Cove Lodge provides professional personal service to guests looking to immerse themselves in the best Alaska has to offer in both sport fishing and wilderness experiences. Humpback Whales & Orcas along with Alaskan Brown Bear are our closest neighbors. With a maximum guest capacity of 32, we primarily cater to fishing, but our adventure tours continue to grow each year.
Whaler’s Cove Lodge is a unique employment environment. We operate a cooperative, self-sufficient, remote wilderness operation that requires an immense amount of foresight, communication, teamwork, and hard work.
