We operate two boats at the lodge, a 44-foot Maxweld catamaran, and a 26-foot Hewescraft utility boat.
The captain is responsible for the safe operation of our vessels, the maintenance of our boats, and the safe and professional interaction with our guests while conveying our company philosophy and values. Our boat captains and the naturalist guides are professionals who work closely together as a team to create magical experiences for our guests. We are heavily focused on the education and interpretation of the natural landscapes, abundant wildlife, geologic history, human history, cultural history, and much more through our adventure programming at the lodge.
All our employees are expected to contribute to some of the chores of daily life at the lodge. Unloading boats containing supplies and keeping common workspaces clean are just a few.
We look for captains at Tutka Bay Lodge who can contribute to our guests' Alaska adventure, can work in a remote environment successfully, exhibit advanced professional skills, and take pride in a positive team attitude and contribution.
The lodge is set at the entrance to a deep 9-mile fjord within a State Park and is located 25 minutes by boat south of the seaside community of Homer, Alaska. Imagine the fresh fish we get here!
Current basic first aid and CPR are required.

The Lead Guide is expected to have excellent organizational skills, demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities, be Wilderness First Responder Certified (WFR), be competent in all related outdoor skills, and demonstrate exceptional people skills. The Lead Guide is responsible for building out the guest, boat, and helicopter dispatch boards daily. The Lead Guide is responsible for building and maintaining a healthy, cooperative team atmosphere amongst the guide team and motivating them to uphold all company policies and procedures.
Our naturalist guides interact with guests and guide them in various on and off-site adventure activities: hiking, sea-kayaking, snorkeling, packrafting, and helicopter-assisted activities such as glacier trekking, tundra exploration, fly fishing, and flight sees are all adventures at Tutka Bay Lodge.
