Job Summary:
The members of the Scenic Cruise Crew are responsible for safely conducting scheduled trips while adhering to company, National Park Service, and U.S. Coast Guard regulations, as well as providing informative commentary on Yellowstone's history and geography. Additionally, these positions require maintaining vessel safety, cleanliness, and operational standards, while ensuring a positive experience for passengers and fostering good relationships with coworkers and management.
The Details:
Position Type: Seasonal
Season Dates: May 2025 to September 2025
Pay: $20.25 per hour
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities
Conducts safe and lawful trips following company policy and regulations from NPS (National Park Service) and USCG (United States Coast Guard)
Ensures the safety of passengers, crew, and the vessel at all times
Maintains communication with shore stations throughout operations
Provides engaging commentary on Yellowstone’s natural and human history while addressing guest inquiries
Manages passenger manifests and maintains order on the vessel
Instructs guests on boating safety and emergency procedures, conducting necessary drills
Fosters positive relationships with coworkers, NPS (National Park Service), and management while ensuring vessel cleanliness and reporting issues
Supervises vessel operation, including Mate's piloting, and assists in coaching
Completes required paperwork and assists with various marina operations as needed
Qualifications
Must pass written and practical seamanship examinations
Must be 21 years of age or older
Must possess a valid driver’s license with no high-risk violations in the past 3 years
Must be able to tie a proper Bowline and Cleat Hitch (Halyard) knot
Knowledge of rules and procedures for use of marine band radio
Knowledge of safety, emergency, and life-saving procedures
Training provided for current CPR and 1st Aid certification
Knowledge of park geography and history with a focus on Lake area
Public speaking skills
Knowledge of NPS (National Park Service) boating and fishing regulations
Supervision skills - Passengers and Crew
Knowledge of maintenance and operation of assigned equipment
Knowledge of weather patterns
Must possess a valid FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit (Not required for Scenic Cruise Mate)
Must possess a current and valid United States Coast Guard license to operate a vessel for hire - 50 Ton Inland Master minimum,100 Ton preferred (Not required for Scenic Cruise Mate)
Ability to lead, train and support boat operator trainees (Senior Pilot Only)
Instructional Skills
Physical Requirements include:
Must pass DOT Physical
Must pass DOT pre-employment and random drug screens
Must be capable of lifting objects of up to 50 pounds
Must be capable of bending, lifting, and standing throughout a 10+ hour shift
Must have full function and usage of both hands
Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (sun, rain, snow, etc.)
for extended periods of time and provide proper attire for such weather conditions
Must be able to work at elevations in excess of 7700 feet
