Join the Crew at Alaska's Wilderness Flight Safari Lodge!
Ultima Thule Lodge is for travelers who want to experience the real Alaska. People who are craving wild places and raw experiences. It is for those who are looking for authentic experiences and aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and feet wet. Adventurers who want to be left in awe of nature and can appreciate a place where the mountains are still without names.
Ultima Thule Lodge sits 100 miles from the end of the paved and maintained road system near the historic mining town of McCarthy. The only way to get here is via bush-plane. Anchorage is over 350 miles airmiles due west of the lodge.
About Ultima Thule Lodge
Ultima Thule, defined as ‘the land remote beyond reckoning,’ was built from the understanding that indulging creature comforts and overwhelming the senses are ideal ingredients for once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The lodge lies deep in the Alaskan wilderness, surrounded by Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, part of the largest protected land mass on earth and sits on the mighty Chitina river a hundred miles from paved roads.
Ultima Thule is a family-owned and operated company with foundational values of hard work and service. The lodge is an outpost of civilization in the heart of the true wilderness and as such, relies on the skills and dedication of each person to maintain the needs of the community.
Our crew members consist of people who are passionate about wild places, committed to going above and beyond to create unforgettable experiences and motivated by the desire to grow as individuals while building strong community connections.
The Employee Experience
Do you have a special skill or unique ability that would be beneficial to a remote, off the grid, adventure and hospitality company?
Are you a mature, professional couple looking for a unique opportunity that allows you to work side by side?
Are you a highly motivated individual looking for a remote living lifestyle where your natural abilities are put to use and you learn new skills every day?
Are you interested in being part of a highly functioning team, in a small community dedicated to customer service and wilderness experience?
Lodge life is more than a job, it is being part of the community that we like to call ‘Thule Town’. We are off the grid and only accessible via bush plane. The guest experience is the paramount focus, and long workdays and enthusiasm are essential. Crew members enjoy getting out for hikes and camping adventures on down days.
Ideal Candidate
Our crew members consist of individuals who are passionate about wild places, committed to going above and beyond to create unforgettable experiences and motivated by the desire to grow as individuals while making strong social connections. Each person wears many hats throughout a season and works alongside all of the crew and family members to ensure that our small number of clients receive first-class service and impeccable comfort during their visit to “the middle of nowhere”.
The ideal candidate is someone who is dependable and has a great personality to go into any situation ready to get their hands dirty. The perfect person to join our team would be good at time management, collaborative and flexible enough to jump in wherever is needed. Our team works and lives together, so professionalism and the ability to overcome stress and conflict gracefully is essential.
Room and Board
Crew housing and a sauna/bathhouse are provided. Remember this is remote Alaska and there is no indoor plumbing in the crew house.
Meals are provided in a family-style atmosphere. We eat hearty/healthy meals with lots of fresh veggies and wild-harvested fish and game. Due to our remote location and demands on the kitchen staff, we are not always able to accommodate special dietary needs from crew members.
Each applicant is asked to mindfully consider if the lifestyle and challenges are right for them before pursuing a position!
Employee Perks
Our crew gets the unique opportunity of living off the grid in the middle of the largest protected land mass in the world. The view from our ‘office’ is unparalleled. You will be part of a flight culture and we are lucky enough to have some of the best bush pilots in the world. The crew members have the option of going on adventures in their downtime which could include hiking, rafting and camping. Transportation between Anchorage and the lodge as well as room and board are provided.
Getting Here and Getting Around
The lodge location is 100 miles from the nearest maintained road. Bush-style airplanes offer the only access to and from the property. We are in the middle of 13 million acres of vast wilderness and thus the closest town, McCarthy, is only accessible by flight. Crew members arriving from out of state should make travel arrangements to Anchorage and will be met by a lodge representative on the first day of employment. Transportation to the lodge and back to Anchorage at the end of the employment period is provided.
