    Assistant Chef

    Crossed Sabres Ranch

    Do you love cooking AND the outdoors? Do you want to grow your culinary skills while enjoying the Wild West? Being the breakfast chef at Crossed Sabres may just be the perfect job for you. The breakfast chef is a huge part in helping us to provide our guests with the “vacation of a lifetime”.

    We have a small kitchen team that prepares and serves our guests with three delicious, hearty meals per day. As the breakfast chef you will prepare a country style breakfast buffet for 30-50 people. You will also provide support to the head chef with lunch, kitchen cleanliness, receiving food deliveries, prepping, and baking.

    Kitchen experience is preferred but not required, as we have a robust and detailed training system, to get you up to speed and ready to go for the season. Kitchen skills that will be helpful (but are not required):

    • Baking
    • Ability to follow recipes
    • Basic knife skills
    • Comfort using kitchen appliances

     

    You will work closely with our housekeeping/waitstaff, so working well in a team setting is a must. Being self-sufficient and organized are helpful skills as well.

    Must be available to work the full season May 25th - September 5th.

    Wrangler

    Crossed Sabres Ranch

    Do you want to spend your summer with world-class views through the ears of a horse? With millions of acres of national forest as your back yard, you’ll never get tired of the views.

    As a wrangler at Crossed Sabres Ranch, you must be a responsible team player with excellent horsemanship skills. An outgoing personality and the ability to provide a first class experience for our guests (on and off horseback), while maintaining a safety first mindset are critical for success.

    Our wranglers get to lead our guests on trail rides on the almost endless miles of trails around the ranch. You will be expected to lead rides of any skill level, provide lessons, and have an in depth knowledge of our trail system.

    In addition to guiding trail rides, you will be responsible for other tasks that support the overall success of the ranch, such as:

    • Caring for 40 head of horses
    • Maintaining a clean and organized corral and tack room
    • Wrangling horses in and out of grazing
    • Saddling up to 30 head of horses daily
    • Assisting guests prior to rides
    • Adjusting cinches and tack
    • Helping guests safely mount their horse

    While on trail you will be expected to:

    • Exhibit high quality horsemanship skills that reflect Crossed Sabres Ranch riding policy
    • Set a good example by wearing appropriate attire (boots with heels, long pants, stampede strings, etc)
    • Communicate with your guests and get to know them, while providing information about the area, wildlife, Yellowstone, horsemanship, etc.
    • Display concern for the well-being of the horses
    • Take control of the group no matter the skill level
    • Display good judgement in dealing with guests and horses in all situations
    • Anticipate potentially dangerous situations on the trail
    • Utilize emergency skills as necessary on the trail
    • Be able to handle horses on the ground and in the saddle
    • Be able to say NO to any guest who may jeopardize the safety of you, your horses, or other guests.

    As a wrangler you will also be expected to help with clearing and maintaining trails, fixing fence, loading hay, and cleaning and oiling tack.

    We do ask all of our employees to help in general ranch jobs outside of their specific department as needed. Some of these jobs are socializing with guests, helping with BB guns, archery, hatchet throwing, washing dishes, square dancing, skeet shooting, rodeo transportation, airport shuttles, and anything else needed to ensure the success of the ranch. 

     

    We understand that this may sound like a lot, but all of our wranglers will be provided with the necessary training to competently complete the above responsibilities.

     

    Requirements to be considered for the wrangler position: 

    Preference will be given to applicants who are available to work the full season May 25th - September 5th. 

    • Minimum age to apply is 20 
    • Extensive equine knowledge and experience  
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification covering time of employment 

    Housekeeping/Waitstaff

    Crossed Sabres Ranch

    All of the positions at Crossed Sabres are integral to the success of the ranch, and the housekeeping/waitstaff are no different.

    Better known around the ranch as Cabin Wranglers you get to make our guests happy by keeping the cabins and lodge clean, working meals and serving our guests until their stomachs are full, and helping to make sure the lodge and kitchen are clean as a whistle.

    Meals are served buffet style, and working a meal entails supporting the chefs, carrying food to the buffet, setting tables, running desserts, and checking in with guests during the meals. We serve one plated dinner per week, our Friday Steak Night!

    Occasionally, you get to fill in and guide guests on some of the beautiful hikes around the ranch, or help on the weekly trip to Yellowstone.

    We do ask all of our employees to help with general ranch jobs outside of their specific department as needed. Some of these jobs are socializing with guests, helping with BB guns, archery, and hatchet throwing, washing dishes, square dancing, skeet shooting, rodeo transportation, airport shuttles, and anything else needed to ensure the success of the ranch.

    Fishing Guide/Maintenance

    Crossed Sabres Ranch

    As a fly-fishing guide at Crossed Sabres, you get to take our guests fishing on the North Fork of the Shoshone River in the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about the surrounding landscapes, enjoy world-class scenery, and help our wonderful guests catch plenty of fish!

    Being in charge of our fishing program includes providing fly casting lessons for our guests, and guiding walk/wade fishing trips with easy access to the river. You will be provided with gear from Orvis and nearly endless fishing holes.

    When you’re not fishing, helping around the ranch in other aspects is paramount to the success of the ranch. Some of these tasks include landscaping, mowing, simple plumbing and carpentry, keeping the saloon stocked, and general maintenance.

    Our fishing guides also have the important task of doubling as Yellowstone Guides. You will be in charge of driving our guests through the park and helping to educate them about the flora and fauna, and the history of our first national park.

    Position requirements:

    • Minimum age to apply – 20
    • Fly-fishing experience, with previous guiding a plus
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certifications covering time of employment
