Middle Bass General Store & Uncle Joes Pizza is located on the quiet Middle Bass Island. We're the only store on this 750-acre island in Western Lake Erie (and one of three bars and restaurants on the Island).
Middle Bass Island is an island of the U.S. state of Ohio, located in Lake Erie. A small town, Middle Bass, lies on the island. The 805-acre (3.258 km²) island is shaped like the Big Dipper and is one of three Bass Islands located at the center of a group of 23 smaller islands. It is located in Put-in-Bay Township, Ottawa County, Ohio.

Landing a seasonal job with Middle Bass Island General Store is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to spend their summer on an island with a resort atmosphere! The General Store opens on April 1st through mid-November when it closes for the winter.
During time off, enjoy boating, swimming, and outdoor activities such as golfing, beach glass hunting and fishing. Put-in-Bay is also just a short ferry ride away, where you'll find many more bars, restaurants and shops, and just an hour to Cedar Point and Sandusky. Great places to visit while being able to come home to the peace at Middle Bass!
The Employee Experience
We are a family-owned business. Over the years many family members have worked for us and often come back to help during the busy season. We also employ many local students for summers while they enjoy their family cottages. Middle Bass General Store is the local hangout. We have a friendly, inviting, laid-back environment where people come to see their friends and chat with one another. We embrace our employees like family. There are many things to do on your days off and we do bi-monthly staff trips to neighboring islands. This is the place for a laid-back island experience!
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a hard worker, a fast learner, and a people person. This position is very interactive with tourists and locals. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys nature and living a laid-back lifestyle.
Room and Board
For our employees, we have a private house in a neighborhood. Our house is on the golf course and there is a community pool just down the street. The house started as a 3-bedroom house with 1.5 baths. We recently added an addition to the house consisting of 2 suites (single room with private bath) and an upstairs dormer. The dormer has two bedrooms (one single and one double) that share a bathroom and kitchenette. We have 6 private bedrooms and one shared bedroom. Those living in the house share a bathroom. We charge $60 a week for the house and $90 a week for the suites.
We offer one meal per day worked. Everything else our employees get 20% off of everything in the General Store and restaurant.
Employee Perks
Perks include one meal per shift and a house account with 20% off all purchases at MBIGS. We also offer a bonus of $0.50 per every hour worked for those who complete their contract.
Free laundy, internet and TVs in each room.
We also take one monthly staff trip. Past trips have included: Cedar Point, Lake Erie Adventure Day, Put-In-Bay Sight Seeing, Cleveland and more!
Getting Here and Getting Around
No need for a vehicle. Housing is less than a mile away from work. It is a great place to walk or have a bike for transportation. We have multiple bikes that can be used to get to work.
