Work and live in the heart of downtown Seward, explore Kenai Fjords National Park during your off-time!

We are a boutique nightly rental property in the heart of downtown Seward above a cafe/deli.

We are in the heart of downtown Seward Alaska, located on the shores of Resurrection Bay, in Kenai Fjords National Park.

About Sauerdough Lodging

Sauerdough Lodging is a collection of 6 nightly rentals in downtown Seward. Five of the units are in a historic building on Fourth Ave (the Main Street downtown), while the 6th one is a cottage 2 blocks towards the bay. The main lodge is one of the original structures of the town and we are on the town's historic register. We have tried to maintain and honor the history of our building and we are passionate about sharing it with our guests.

We are recruiting a spring/summer manager/cleaner to oversee the building, all reservations/guest issues, and cleaning. We're also seeking additional housekeepers/cleaners to help the manager.

The Employee Experience

There's something special about Seward that we can't put our finger on but are so grateful to be able to share with others and be a part of ourselves. You'll arrive a stranger but leave with a network of new friends and connections and a renewed appreciation for this beautiful world we live in. Seward showcases all that Alaska has to offer. We have striking mountains that surround us yet we also have beaches. We have plenty of human connection when we want it, but we also have the option to escape into nature right out our back door.

Ideal Candidate

We are searching for adventurous, dedicated staff who love to meet guests from around the world and are committed to helping us make sure our guests are happy during their stay. Our rentals are highly rated on all reservation sites and we strive to keep it that way.

Room and Board

We offer on-site housing for our employees. Details vary with the position; in general, the rooms available are private or shared and the space is communal. We have two shared bathrooms, a shared kitchen, and on-site laundry. All utilities included. Monthly rent varies. Security deposits are required. Please note that we do not allow smoking or vaping on our property.

Employee Perks

Being able to live on-site and work downtown is very convenient for employees! You'll be steps away from so many activities:

  • Mt. Marathon hiking trails are accessible via Second Ave behind the hospital and AVTEC.
  • Public Library and Museum are just two blocks away.
  • Two local gyms are 1-2 blocks from us (our employees enjoy free summer access to each!)
  • The small boat harbor is about a mile from us, accessible via a beautiful waterfront bike/walking path.
  • Employees have the option to sign up for FAM (familiarization) tours with many local tour operators. We highly recommend you take advantage of these for low-cost options to get out and see tidewater glaciers/whales, kayaking, and more!

Getting Here and Getting Around

Seward is 120 miles from Anchorage (where you'd fly into) You'll need to arrange transportation from Anchorage to Seward upon arrival. There are a couple of buses that make daily runs (Seward Red Eye shuttle, Seward Bus Line). The Alaska Railroad also makes a daily run to Seward from mid-May to Sept. Once you're in Seward, you won't need a car unless you want to make trips out of town. Seward itself is easily walkable - the town is about a mile long. It's also very bike-friendly.

For Fun

Things to do in Seward: hike, kayak, dog-sled, helicopter tour, whale-watching and glacier tours, zip-lining, horseback riding, Harding Icefield hikes, biking, beachcombing, beach campfires. If you love the outdoors, Seward is the place for you!
