Live, Work and play on the water! Many opportunities - Historic Hotel, five restaurants, retail shops and a coffee house.

Originally built in 1852, The Island House was the first summer hotel on Mackinac Island. Today, we are a family of businesses and have hundreds of job opportunities at our historic hotel, restaurants and bistros, coffee shops, our famous Ryba's Fudge Shops, and bicycle rental operations.

Located between Michigan's rugged upper and lower peninsulas where Lake Huron and Lake Michigan meet.

About The Island House

Island House Hotel is a member of the Historic Hotels of America and is a one of kind property located at the edge of Haldimand Bay on Mackinac Island.

We operate five restaurants on Mackinac from family dining to casual fine dinning.  Each one presenting a broad range of opportunities.

Our candy shops are fun to visit and provide a fast-paced work environment. We have created handmade artisan candies and chocolates since the early 1960's in our family owned and operated Ryba's Fudge Shops on Mackinac Island.

Rounding things out is a full-service coffee shop in the heart of town that never slows down during our busy season!

Working on Mackinac Island is a truly unique experience. The Island House and its family of businesses offer some of the best employment opportunities on the Island, and we hope you consider joining us!

The Employee Experience

Mackinac Island is a unique place located between Michigan’s rugged upper and lower peninsulas where Lake Huron and Lake Michigan meet. There are no motor vehicles on the Island, which is accessible only by ferry, plane and private watercraft.

No motor vehicles means no rush hour, no commute and little pollution. Leave a big portion of your carbon footprint on the mainland. Walk or ride your bike to get around. When you are not trapped in a car, you have a chance to see the water and see the trees. Things slow down, and you suddenly have a chance to say hello to people. Mackinac Island has a sense of community as a direct result of this freedom.

You can be in the woods on a secluded trail in less than ten minutes after work. You can have a rock beach all to yourself if you head a mile out of town on a bike. The Island is 80% State Park and it is here for all of us to share.

If you are tired of watching other people have adventures on TV, live your own. Live it on Mackinac Island!

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for adventurous people to work on Mackinac Island for our spring/summer/fall seasons.  Jobs begin in early May and run through late October.  We accept candidates that are available to work for varying lengths of time.  Please keep in mind the later in the season a person can work the better, as many positions run through late October.

There are shared common living areas in the dorms that all residents have access to. Coin-operated laundry machines are also located in each dorm.

We have limited couples' housing as well as private rooms available. Ask for details!

For select positions, management housing is also available outside of the dorms.

Housing available beginning at $95.00 per week.

Employee Perks

All employees receive a discount at select company-owned restaurants. Discounted hotel rates at select times when booked with hotel manager approval. Annual employee cruise, weekly kickball league, and dining certificates given on the spot for a job well done!

Getting Here and Getting Around

All new and returning employees must arrange their own transportation to and from Mackinac Island. Employees are responsible for their own relocation costs. It will be necessary to take a ferry from either Mackinaw City or St. Ignace to Mackinac Island. Links to the ferry companies are below.

There are no cars on Mackinac Island. The main modes of transportation are by horse-drawn buggy, foot, and bicycle. We highly recommend that you bring a bicycle for transportation on the island.

If you bring a car with you it will be necessary to arrange for seasonal parking in St. Ignace or Mackinaw City with one of the ferry lines.

For Fun

Mackinac is great for the outdoors person. 80% of the island is a state park with an excellent trail system perfect for mountain biking, trail running, and hiking. There are two golf courses on the island as well as public tennis courts. And don’t forget about the water! Mackinac Island is located where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet. So bring your bike, hammock, sports gear, or kayak!
